If you mean you are clicking on the keys in the VSTi interface and its not recording to a track. That is normal. The VSTi does not out put that data to Sonar. Its just for auditioning purposes.

I've found two solutions to this that sort of work.

    1. Grab a virtual midi keyboard from somewhere and play/click on that.

    2. Use a VST recorder plugin to record your vsti output.  That creates a wave file that has to be brought back into Sonar.

Neither solution is great, but ok for fooling around.

I also expected this to work in Sonar, seems kind of intuitive even if it may not be all that useful.

Your English is very good and clear.  No problem!

I wish I could record from the VST keyboards.  I don't know why this doesn't work.  That is a deficiency (problem) in the design.

I usually just write the notes in the Staff view.

If the VSTi output the MIDI it would work, but most VSTi are not designed to work that way. VST that output MIDI usually process it in some way, like arpecciators or some guitar VSTis will output strums from chords being input from your keyboard.

To play a keyboard on a screen and control VSTi there are some solutions if you google around here a couple that came up - I have no idea if they are any good, but one is free and the other has a free trail version.
