Bondage (2013 Mix)

This is an old song that I wrote back in 1981. I've recorded it a few different times over the years. This version was recorded back in 2003, with my old friend Brian DiBonaventura. I remixed it recently to replace missing software FX plugins, and to give the mix a bit more "space".

I'm sharing this with the group as a sample of some of my old style stuff.  It's a much more complex production than my more recent electronic music.  That being said, I'm probably not going to be doing much more with this mix any time soon. ;)  But in any case, I hope you guys enjoy it.

   Thanks for sharing Walt. I see what you mean. If you got started in this back in 81' then I could imagine wanting to try something different. You are doing great with your synth work as well. 
 
  If you hadn't told me what year this was made I would have guessed in the mid 80's. What was your recording rig back then? This was back before the average person had decent recording tools unless they went to a studio. The guitar sits well in the mix. The other parts are coming through ok. I can't tell how the low end is from my listening setup right now.You have good vocals. Pretty cool.

Thanks again for listening Starise, and thanks for the compliments!  I'm a bit self conscious about my vocals, and have used V-Vocal quite a bit on them. ;)  I hope it's not too obvious.
 
The original takes were done in 2002/2003, using Sonar (maybe Sonar 2?), running on a WinXP box.  Not sure if that was before or after I bought a Liquid DAW from Scott Reams (an old CW user).  I hooked it up to a Tascam DM-24, with a 24-channel IF-FW/DM firewire interface.  It was a fairly awesome setup actually.  I could record 16 mics at once, plus 8 more digital tracks via lightpipe.  Mostly I kept it to about 10 or 12 mics though, max.  For instance, the drum tracks on this song use 8 mics.  Obviously this is quite a different production process from electronic music. ;)

I'll just keep it nice and easy and say that it sounded really good for me. Had a nice arrangement, instrumentation, vocals and mix. For starting this so many years ago, and then working on it here and there you have been able to keep the bulk of everything in pretty good condition in order to work on it one more time. For now, seeing you have taken care of the kick, might be a good time to leave well enough alone. Nicely done.

Cool Tune Walt... I liked the vocal... not crazy 'bout the fuzzy guitar, but I enjoyed listenting... this was the only SoundCloud tune that would play for me so far today...
