Moderately priced convolution reverb

I am looking for a reasonably priced convolution reverb for classic guitar and flute.  What are some recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

Tom

    Hi Tom,

You might want to check this out as they have a demo version you can try. http://www.liquidsonics.com/software.htm

I have been using both the full and core version for over a year and have no complaints whatsoever. I have received several free updates over that time also.

    Kind regards,
    Rick

Another inexpensive one is MMultiBandConvolution I picked it up on one of their 50% off sales. Still not bad at the full price of ~$46

X2 already has Perfect Space...while the included impulses aren't great,
you can pick up a lot of really good Impulses for free to use...

    There is also FreeVerb...
    http://freeverb3.sourceforge.net/

If you own any Waves plugs you get access to the Acoustics.net Impulse Library,
which has a lot of really good impulses...

Waves IR-L is a nice Convo...not as adjustable as IR-1
    http://www.waves.com/plugins/ir-l-convolution-reverb

One of the highest rated FREE Convo's is SIR 1...
    http://www.knufinke.de/sir/sir1.php

There is a higher end version, SIR 2, which is $189...

    SoundsOnline's  Spaces is alright...
    http://www.soundsonline.com/Spaces

These are still a little pricey...

I highly recommend downloading the Demo's and see what works for you...

Whatever you decide to get keep in mind it's more about the IR than the software that's important.
Many of the free ones you can find on the internet are horrible.

I see you use Sonar & if you're not aware of it you have Voxengo's Perfect Space convo verb included.
Try this free Bricasti M7 lib from Samplicity.

Sound quality in PerfectSpace is equal to any other convolution reverb, and it's quite full-featured. The only downside to PerfectSpace versus others is that it's not a true stereo reverb. IOW, the inputs are summed and then the delayed copies are randomly panned. This isn't as much of a limitation as it sounds, and many reverbs (both convolution and algorithmic) work this way.

However, I'd think that one exception where it might be a limitation would be small ensembles of acoustical instruments, where preserving panoramic subtleties could be more important. You might therefore want to take a look at Voxengo's Pristine Space, big brother to PerfectSpace. At $120 it's not particularly cheap, but it does offer true stereo operation.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I've had Pristine Space for several years & although it works fine & features true stereo it's not 64b & he doesn't have any plans to do it.

It also doesn't come with any IR's.
I see there's some available  to dl although not that great IIRC.
Looking at it again I remember how antiquated it works & looks, wouldn't spend $120.00 on this.

Re: Moderately priced convolution reverb 2013/09/21 10:38:39 (permalink)
I started with Perfect Space, and upgraded to Pristine Space. I am disappointed that it doesn't look like it will make the leap to x64, so I'm looking at others too.

Reverberate is pretty cool, but I haven't picked up the paid version yet.

Freeverb is remarkable - I keep trying to figure out the catch.

And I was very pleasantly surprised by Waves IR-L.

I've been tempted to try SIR2, but SIR and I never really got along - quite possibly due to the latency, I'm not sure. Funny the things that can leave a bad taste.

Any of these could be the ticket for me, but I'll take my time evaluating because I really hate switching platforms or plug-ins, and Pristine Space is still working for me.

The real key, as others have pointed out, is the IRs. Samplicity has some really well done IRs, both free and for purchase. There are a couple of web sites loaded with free IRs, and you pretty much have to download them all and then sift through them to find the gems, but it is worth it. Follow the links at the Voxengo site to get started.

I should also add that I remain a big fan of algorithmic reverb, and over the last couple years I've gone even further backwards<G>, using hardware processors as much as I can. I find it difficult to beat the sound of my PCM-90 - that could be all in my mind or it could be real, but I really like it. Recently I started playing around with the Valhalla reverbs, an they come awfully close, and the Exponential reverbs might even be closer still, although they are a bit more of an investment. (quick edit: if you want to demo the Exponential Audio plugins you will need an iLok2)

It's moot, for me anyway, as I have reached the point where my monitoring system is not really up to the task of exposing the subtle differences, so that's really what I need to focus on now<G>... it's always something !
