Slow Media Playback

I just got sonar x2 essentials, which is great, but when I want to play some of the example media in the browser widow on the left-hand side and I press on the example track to give me an idea of what it is going to sound like, it plays really slow as though it has been slowed down (no pitch change just stutteringly slow). When I drag it into my project and play it back in the section where you interact with the tracks, it is at a normal speed, like it is suppose to.
I played around with the lattency and a few other option in the audio setting section, but nothing seems to do it, could not really find anything in the forums.

I have a Roland quad-capture usb 2.0 box(?) as an audio output for me to hear and mircophone and midi imput and I'm using sonar x2 essentials.

I couln't find anything in the forums or on the internet.

Thank you very much.

I'm not sure if it works the same way on Essentials, but check if you have the match project tempo feature enabled.  What may be happening is that when you preview, it is slowing down the file to match the project.  If so, this can be disabled.

Where do you find this match project tempo feature?

in the media browser, by the tab that says media, you will see a dropdown arrow.  if you click on that , one of the options is "preview at host tempo".  Uncheck that.  It is useful for loop based production, but can be a pain for other projects.
