Strange squawks in soft synths

Perhaps someone can help me with this.  Here are the details.
Intel I7, 16gigs ram, 2 hard drives.
Occasional random squawks.  Don't happen in the same place, are random.
Happens with various soft synths (battery, massive, FM8), even when frozen.
CPU and other meters don't budge during squawk, it's not a CPU issue.  DPL latency checker doesn't budge either.
Making me nuts.
Any ideas?  Thanks.

Odd?  Any demo plug ins anywhere in the project, some demos give off noise at random intervals until they are regestered.

Could there be some other software running outside of Sonar that makes noises?

Other than that I have no ideas, but you may want to mention your audio interface and driver mode as it could help others suggest a solution.

What are your current settings for Sample Rate, ASIO Buffer Size, Driver Mode, and Record Bit-Depth?

Nothing much running in the background except the internet, but I eliminated that as the problem (I'll double check).  I've tried various settings.  Current settings are 24 bits, 40 ms delay (buffer size) although I've tried various ones (could try longer, I suppose, but too long, and then soft synths start to lag by different delays).  Sample rate 44.1, driver mode WDM/KS, interface MOTU 24I.
    Thanks.
