Speaking of the X3 box......

Has anyone ever bought a downloadable software product (not drivers) from TASCAM?

Just a crazy thought but maybe TASCAM's delivery philosophy does not include downloads, only boxed products?

Well, they post drivers and updates for the Tascam 2488 which I own... and manuals. I can't see them changing the delivery model for Sonar.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

If anything you'll see less boxed copies in the future. Physical media is quickly becoming obsolete.

    I like boxes.

I have 2 Tascam recorders and they work so well that neither has ever needed a firmdate.

I bought a download to SONAR 8.5 once and I ended up buying a box for it so I could do clean install because the download had to be installed over v8 or it wouldn't work.

I'm still predicting that before it's over that DAWs will come in boxes that have CPUs built right into the box.

    Best regards,
    mike

I know cloud based is the future, automatic updates, yada yada , cheaper to farm out than host in house or on Amazon Servers...

I am just not sold on Steam

I'm good with that.  I've lost physical copies of software several times before.  It's nice to be able to download the software again if necessary.   (Although, some of the old manuals came in handy propping up a keyboard controller's height in a pinch.   )

Uhhhhh tell that to East West/Soundsonline.

damn library of DVDs took me 5 hours to install DVD after DVD after DVD.  110gb would have been a LOT to download.

My Sonar X2 download is sitting at 15gb but SOMETIMES it is better to get the physical media if for nothing other than backup storage.

I'm predicting that the DAW will be implanted right in your head. But after this happens any bugs will not only bug you, they will cause feelings of inadequacy.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

My purchase came on a 7200 RPM Hard Drive. I backed it up after I installed it on the DAW computer and then installed Play. Simples.
