saving and moving files
hi everyone, I want to be able to take an unfinished song and load it into someone else's DAW (pro-tools) now when I had SONAR HOME STUDIO I was able to do after much trial and error, in other words it took days. one of the things that attracted me to X-2 was doing exactly this would be easier. can someone walk me through this or a tutorial link.

I have thus far only shared with other Sonar users, so I have not gone through this process.
I would think any DAW would be able to import broadcast wave files, and midi data for each track can be exported to midi files, leaving just the assignment and routing of synths to play the midi, OR one could generate audio from the midi tracks and then send those audio files along to the other guy as well (also as broadcast wave files).
There is an open source format, but I have never used it. That might be another option for you to look at.
Hopefully, somebody else will offer some better advice.

I thought saving your project as an OMF (other mo fo?) file was how you shared with other daws. All your plugins and stuff won't transfer but lining up your wavs and midi files in the timeline should work well enough.
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

I couldn't recall if there were issues with the OMF format or not, and as I indicated, I share with Sonar folks only at this time.

I don't know about the present situation, but OMF-support used to be a rather expensive addition in PT, so if the other guy has it, that's the way. Otherwise you simply export audio and MIDI track by track and assemble them together in PT. MIDI-tracks can simply be dragged to Desktop, no need to export, IIRC.
Note, that as mentioned, all the FX and soft synths used must be redone in PT unless you bounce everything to audio. An editable project, identical to that in SONAR, can not be transferred to another DAW.

As others have said, there are different ways to do it depending upon what you want the other guy to get.
The simplest thing for a mix is to bounce all the tracks in a project using the same start point. The tracks will line up from the ... start of the file. This is how to do transfers if the other party is doing the mixing from scratch.
You can freeze and bounce tracks using the same time format as above if you want to use your fx and settings.
OMF, which is supposed to transfer a lot of mix info, including which effects. This works if both parties have the same effects, naturally.
W/ ProTools, watch out for the actual tracks starting 5-10 minutes or more into the timeline.
