Portablize my Soft Synths?

So it's a long-standing question- is there a way to truly make my softsynths portable?
I once considered the Raspberry Pi micro Linuz computer, but it seems so hard to get midi stuff working on Linux.
I've been considering using my iPad for a while, but it's not my personal device and its not portable or customized enough. Nor can it run my real soft synth VSTis.
Finally, I've been looking at Pico-ATX SFF computers... It may be the way.
Has anyone found a way to make a pocket synth?

[in addition, my sis gave me her old Asus netbook, I upgraded the RAM and it may be a decent way to do it (although its a but heavy even at 10")]

You could use a mini-ITX PC.  It might give you a little more flexibility than a netbook or a pad.  It would likely be a little heavier, but it will be very portable.  You can build your own or buy one.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot--hey, who the hell are you guys?

Sad when we consider a 10" lap top "too heavy" to carry around.

Well I really want something that can sit on my keyboard's music stand or in a bag and still run; it's kinda gotta be able to be carried in one hand. I may actually get an Android tablet and install XP, that's an option.

     Well there's this- http://www.smproaudio.com/index.php/en/products/v-machines

Muse Research has some nice rack mount devices. They are nothing more than computers with a more streamlined OS that handles VSTi more efficiently.

These days most decent keyboards already come with enough artillery to handle almost anything but most won't load your personal collection.
