X3 Icons

I just made 3 icons for X3:

One is from Sonar X3 Producer - a true copy (called X3.ico)
The second is a bit darker (called X3a.ico)
The last is like X3a, but the smallest icons are optimized for viewing (X3-dark.ico)

Download them here:

http://www.arachnaut.net/images/Cakewalk/X3a.ico

Here is what they look like:

X3a.ico

Thanks for making these icons!  I guess if I had to be extremely nitpicky, I'd have to say the desktop icon is the only thing I'm not too crazy about with X3.  It's just too washed out.  The X2 icon was much better, having a black gradient background with white lettering. I like the X2 font style better too.

I think the Cakewalk guys were so worn out from creating such a great new version, they didn't have any creative energy left over to make a decent icon. LOL! ;)

I would have liked more contrast as well, but I didn't want to take too many liberties on the design unless I start from scratch.
But the standard tiny icon for the tray is not very good in my opinion, hence the darker icons.

Here are two more icons, very simple, with a blue theme. One with white text the other is black.
I prefer the black in the small size.
I mainly use these for folder icons and stuff like that so the 16x16 size is most important.

    Here are the two icons:

Finally, this is what X3-v1 looks like on my Tray:

On a related subject, I suppose it is well-known that you can change the splash-screen?

The file is in the X3 installation folder called Splash.dib. Make a backup and change the file to what you like.
If you can't edit it, rename Splash.dib to Splash.bmp; edit the BMP; and then rename it back to Splash.dib.
DIB is another form of BMP.

I didn't want to say anything, either, since it's such a non-issue, so I'm glad somebody else said it first.  For some reason, just after I installed X3, I had it in my head that the icon was either installed "wrong" or maybe it was washed out to signify that maybe my version wasn't properly registered or something.  It wasn't until after I installed it on my second computer that I realized that, yeah, it's just the way it looks.  Anyway, thanks arachnaut - I'll probably use one of these.  Pretty cool that my only complaint after three days is the desktop icon!

One more go at it, this was a screen grab of the text from the VST scan 'toast' popup, cropped, and enhanced for small size icons. Since the original text was small, I didn't try for larger sizes, just 48x48, 32x32 and 16x16.

As long as I'm at it, here are a bunch of things I made for X2 that are still fine.
One is a set of icons for folders, the other is a set of BMP files for track icons that I put in the Sonar 'Synth Icon' folder.

    Icons:

    BMPs:

    They look like this:
