I have a vague memory of someone (cake-staff) saying that note expression is something that they've not implemented (yet?)

Per note expression is not supported in X3. Note expression would require changes to SONAR's PRV editing UI and project data to support it. We may consider it in a future SONAR version if there is enough user demand so submit a feature request if it is important to you. Which synths do you own that actually support this feature?

Please read my VST3 blog post for more details on the VST3 features implemented in X3.

however, after having used Cubase VST3 note Expression for a while now, with MIDI CC data bound to individual notes (not necessarily vst3 per note AUTOMATION data), knowing that MIDI CC is monophonic, but nonetheless bound to an individual note, I dont want to miss this Kind of Musical Note Expressive editing.

What about VST Expression Maps an the like, pretty well supported with the VST3 spec?

VST Expression Maps - this is good idea for Sonar... And I hope for the new version of CAL... new Macros panel - like in Studio One 2.6. In X3 we don`t have it... :( I hope it will be in X1c, then in X2, then in X2a and then in X3! Oh... Now I hope for X4.

Yeah expression maps supported by VST3 spec doesn't mean much :) VST3 itself doesn't give you the feature, it has to be implemented at the plugin AND host level.  There has to be UI editing support etc in the host to implement this. While its cool it wasn't on the priority list for X3.

low priority for you doesnt mean low priority for musicians ;) but I understand that there has to be done a lot on the host Level, with per note Expression (MIDI/automation) handling and MIDI Expression maps.

well worth another sonar x iteration and some more Money, to me at least ;) ...

... when it will come together with a complete ACT overhaul please
