X3 already paid for itself

Bought X3 upgrade on Saturday for $149 and did a small recording job for $200 over the weekend. No problems, no crashes.

R.O.I. 48 hours. Man it feels good.

Regards, John

I usually include the amortized expense of my hardware and software in the cost/benefit equation.

No, it was $425. I can afford the good beer now.

For me it was like I was opening an existing session in X2 on the surface. Nothing felt any different, which I didn't mind. I has a few minor VST glitches, but once those were worked out, I started sailing.

I had to go back and relearn the comping from the video, because I didn't find it as intuitive as the video made to be (I find the Record button off-putting and confusing), but this is much better than how I had to do this with Take Lanes. I still think the Take Lanes orientation in the left-hand track column is still confusing to my eyes, but the up-down scrolling and comping methods make it less likely I will need to pay attention to those.

I'm still looking for other things that will benefit me, but the new comping method was good enough reason for me to upgrade. Melodyne is eager to please, and I like the new fly-out EQ. I can actually see this one better and not feel like I'm adjusting an EQ with tweezers. I do wish it has a few more options, such as Linear-Phase, or ability to add a few more channels, but it's much more pleasurable to work with.

Stability and performance is so far so good, but I'm hoping this will let us sail into oblivion with no interruptions.
