Cakewalk + Windows 8.1 = fail

The Windows 8 driver for the UA-1G worked great, but as soon as I updated to 8.1, the driver stopped working and Windows didn't recognize it. Device Manager showed that the device was connected, but said the driver was no good. So I uninstalled, but can't re-install. When the installation gets about halfway, it times out. Have tried this 3 times now, with lots of rebooting.

The installer will not run in compatibility mode (for either Windows 8 or 7), and Windows won't execute the 32-bit installer. If I try to use Device Manager to manually look at the folder that has the DLLs, Windows says there is no driver found.

Has anyone else tried this, or am I the only UA-1G user running Windows 8.1? I have to wonder if the driver takes some direct-to-hardware shortcuts around the operating system, causing each new OS update to disable the driver.

You need 8.1 drivers and they're not out yet.

I have a UM-1G and have the same problem as "finalewiz" and "The Daleks", but not the insight of John.

So, what have you learned from this experience?

If your job or sanity depends on it, WAIT for official confirmation that your software/hardware/drivers are compatible with ANY OS update.

Sometimes you gotta stay behind for awhile until other things catch up.

same here with a UA-25ex.....
...what I've learned from that is that never again will I buy hardware by cakewalk....
FYI Roland has already released a driver for 8.1...cakewalk hasn't...so you're wrong,
it's not to us to lag behind, it's up to them to keep up with the game.
I used to recommend their product to a lot of people as I thought they were identical
to Roland/Edirol's....I won't do that anymore for sure...they aren't very diligent in their
work contrary to Roland.

after countless tries I finally got it to work so for those like me who are/were having troubles installing the new drivers, just get the ones released by Roland and install them BUT SWITCH ADVANCED DRIVER ON at the back of the card...or else you're in for either no install or a blue screen....once advanced driver is on, the new driver installs successfully and everything is back to normal...hooray!
