About Color Customization in SONAR X3
I admit that I have never cared about color customization before. It made no difference to me whatsoever. However, after playing around with the way it is implemented in X3, I thinks it is pretty cool. The way that changing the color of a bus also changes the color of tracks that are feeding it, very nice. The way the colors look and how easy it is to change them. I now do care about this feature and am glad to have it now.

I tried it - I do like the 'follow bus' coloring. Really helps with a lot of tracks.

Icons still work. It bums me out that the bus/track color palette doesn't seem to follow the color schema settings for Track 1-10 foreground though.

I agree, from the point of view that coloring was so wiggy in cubase and reason. very limited and convoluted. sonar is firmly 100 steps ahead of the game against those 2 daws.

I tried to load multiple tracks with the same icon by quick grouping then holding ctrl while setting the icon. Sorry it only changes the one track not all the grouped tracks.

Can you finally make a decent light color scheme again? (Like in pre-X1 Sonars.)
I can't be the only one to dislike the current trend of dark colors in DAWs? (Well, Sound on Sound's Mark Wherry does comment in a recent review that Logic Pro X is "incredibly dark"...)

You can make tons of different color schemes with the color picker: http://blog.cakewalk.com/...e-Cusstom-Colors-1.jpg cyberzip (Well, Sound on Sound's Mark Wherry does comment in a recent review that Logic Pro X is "incredibly dark"...)
I agree, I was at IMSTA this weekend and walked by the Logic room and I didn't think it was Logic at first. I thought it was some new DAW.

Dan - >> You can make tons of different color schemes with the color picker I don't agree with your statement. Sure, I can go into the Edit > Preferences > Colors , and use the color picker dialog to specify my color options for Tracks 1-10, but for the Foreground color *only*. Additionally, there does not seem to be a way to select a track, and specify that it use the color schema for 'Tracks 2,12,22' (say). So apart from setting the default track colors (foreground only), there's no customization at all. I know about changing existing clip colors explicitly through the Inspector - but that does not set the color for newly recorded clips.

I actually put a feature request for this some time ago. I used to use the coloured blocks and wanted to be able to colour a group of tracks with quick grouping. I never got a response but, I hoped it had been implemented.

The problem was never the color picker, but that (starting in X1) many parts of the track view were (and still are in X3?) locked to dark colors and not customizable. I certainly don't mean to be negative, but the trend in DAWs seem to be forcing users to towards darker interfaces, even though light backgrounds are recommended by usage experience researchers. :)

Couldn't agree more. I think of it as a very creative use of color. Useful in denoting what is what. Here is one neat idea that PT has that I did like about it. Now we have it and its very well implemented. I've already used it to identify my drum tracks and buss.
