Guitar MIDI Files?
I'm looking for MIDI files which emulate guitar playing. I need them to be as expressive, idiomatic, and realistic as possible. A lot of the "guitar" MIDI files out there just don't really sound guitar-ish enough....they sound more like keyboard loops faking a guitar part.
Twiddly Bits did a good job along these lines, and I would gladly buy more but they appear not to have issued new releases in several years. I'm looking for something of that caliber, and any help would be appreciated.

Speaking as a guitar player myself, most any guitar midi programs I have heard are pretty dismal. Guitar librarys with loops of actual playing are a lot better. Guitar sounds are at the top of the list of being the hardest instrument to replicate in keyboards and samplers much less software. I, as many on here, would suggest to ask around your locale and you will probably find a real guitarist that would be willing to lay parts down for you. That would be a much better option. Sometimes you can find someone that doesn't do it for money. They just love playing or they want to learn more about the experience of recording. Of course, all of this depends on how realistic you want the part to sound.

Thank you for your reply. Actually, I am also a guitar player...been playing for 42 years. Some people think I'm really good, but I know just enough to know that I'm not.
Anyway, I agree that guitar is a very difficult instrument to do right via MIDI files, but I was hoping there was something out there and this seemed to be a good place to ask the question. I have a lot of acid loops to choose from also, and yes, they can come in handy at times.

I think you will probably find more useable audio librarys than you will MIDI. You can always find a piece of an audio file and chop it up to get what you need. Being a guitar player yourself, don't you have some friends that play well enough to serve your purposes? And don't sell yourself too short, my friend. Even if you aren't happy with the tracks you play on, rest assured, you will continue to improve over time. Not everyone can play on a world class level but if you can perform well enough to get satisfied with the songs you are recording then you are on your way. I wish you luck, my friend!

Depending on your version on Sonar you could also convert your own guitar audio clips to midi. I know version X3 has the capability with Melodyne. Not sure if this is what you want though. I am just getting back into recording after a long hiatus and was looking at some easy ways to get midi data without a controller (and without using piano roll). I have been playing around with it and it has worked well so far. You basically drag the clip from the audio to the midi track and melodyne does it for you. I am on X3 Studio if that helps.
