upstairs is full.. a real question about changing tempo (honest)

So..i am recording the piano part to a song.. and the meter changes a few times from 4/4 to 2/4 fine I can do that..

then its one of those emotive bits where people couldn't count.. so its free tempo "a tempo" I guess on sheet music..

so.. how does I do that?.. is there a way to make a free tempo region in time or how do I record this?.. or does I need to fudge/fake it somehow to make the next beat 1 line up correctly in h:m:s?..

ineptly yours

I'd just set 4/4 120BPM in the free form section. Then once I start up the real metered section again, I'd change the tempo of the free form section until bet 1 of the metered section is "on".

Metronome would be weird in the free form section.

You could use the Insert Beat/Measure function to do this.

Record a couple bars leading up to the free time section so you can get the feel right.

Do a couple takes of the free time section until it sounds/feels how you want.

Figure out what time signature the free time section would probably be if you played it rigidly to a metronome and set the section up to that signature.

Now wherever there is a beat throughout the free time section right click the Sonar Timeline, select Insert Beat/Measure (or whatever it is called) and in the dialog that pops up select the appropriate setting.

Now when you get to that point in the tune to record your keeper takes the metronome will reflect the "free time" you've program, any MIDI stuff (including the PRV) will follow that tempo and the rest of the project will stay in the proper signatures and timing.

There may be other solutions but that is what I would do. Cheers.

This would probably belong in the "philosophy" section of the Coffee House. Or another Moshpit post on krautrock or fee form music!

Hahahaha!!!!! (Halloween cackle!)

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
