Well, it's a first mix. ;) The snare and kick are way out front and should be dropped back into the mix a bit. Since the drumming is so out front it becomes apparent that there are also some performance issues in the rhythm (and/or possibly some inaccurate clip editing during production?), with kick and snare hits being a little off time and overlapping in a few different places. Sounds like you may have even left a few spots where there are two drum parts playing simultaneously (and not quite in sync). In general I think you really scooped the low-mid frequencies out of all your bed tracks, which does make plenty of room for the lead vocals, but there's very little "meat" left to the music. The bass sounds like a "sub bass", and the electric rhythm guitar is barely there. I'd suggest adding back some of those low-mid freqs in the range of 100-1000 Hz.

well, my two cents. I like the vocals and how they sit on top on everything at any given time. I personally do not like the kick too much for it could use more punch, but that is maybe just my personal taste. Anything else - the song, the vibe, the violin, etc is pretty cool! Who is the artist?

I can't get Soundcloud to work....It's a reoccurring problem lately. I'll try again later, sorry.

Thanks speedtom! I'll try to add more punch to the kick. It's my friend Matt, his band is The Hard Arnold Palmers. I've been their bass/fiddle player off and on for a year or so.

I like the tune - vocals are really nice. The mix though - it needs quite a bit of work - it is really "washed out".

Hi, I would drop the drums back as Walt has suggested, I would bring the guitar up, but the guitar sounds a bit tinny and so you may want to throw some eq on it and possible some panning work on everything, so that nothing is sharing any space or is to close together. The over all song is good as far as songs go, it just needs some tweaking here and there. Vocals are good from what I heard at this end. Great start to something better. Peace and Blessings, John

I am more into writing than producing. That's what someone like me says when they suck at something! My partner, CLEAN nailed it though. Washed ou,t though it does work as is. It could be really great with some fixes to the mix. Some punch needs to be added. I think it's there but not coming out yet. I like the song. It sounds kinda like our Phoenix bands the Pistoleros or even the Gin Blossoms. So, that's all good. These guys up here will help you with the mix. They're pretty stinkin' good! Oh, YES, I do like the song and performances.

Here is the new mix, I think I may have added some punch to the drums. I tried to add some 100-1000 Hz. Thank you so much for your comments! https://soundcloud.com/travisgrotbo/go-on-now-mix-3 evadianepug, I showed Matt your comments and he started laughing. He wrote that song while interning at Robin Wilson's studio in Tempe. He got there and interviewed and didn't even realize who Robin was. During the interview the lead guitarist walked in. Matt recognized him because his old band used to play a bunch of Gin Blossoms songs and he recognized him from the videos. Then he realized who Robin was!

I think the drums sound better now, although perhaps the bass guitar could use some more mids as well. Definitely improving!

I finally got this to work! I can't say much because of the computer I'm listening though (here at work), but the song is good and well worth trying to fix and make better. I would trust the judgement of the others. They know what their talking about.

Like Clint I'm listening at work on really crappy pc speakers so I can't really judge the mix except to say it comes across pretty well on these lousy speakers so you're definately moving in the right direction. I really like the song and all the performances sound good. As a couple of folks have already said, you can't go wrong listening to the people around here, so keep going and good luck!

I have noticed that too, but with this song I think it is okay. It is more a vibe song, so the drums need not to be machine-perfect. I even believe that a drum machine track would ruin some of the atmosphere of this song!

I would just audiosnap it a bit :) But I'll see if that's better or if I should leave the snare as is, thanks!
