Paste acting weird in X2
I have been using X2 now for about 2 weeks (took advantage of cheaper upgrade), however, paste seems to be acting weird. I select the range to be copied, then select 'paste special' and the location in the track, hit 'enter' and the paste appears in the new location...... but, there is always a blank space to the left of the paste. On playback this space is silent and the new paste plays. I have found that if I grab the leading edge of the new paste I can stretch it out to cover the missing area in the track and the information that was originally there appears. This happens with both audio and midi clips. I never saw this in X1. Is this a know bug or am I missing something here. I have done hundreds of copy and pastes and never come across this before. Only since 'upgrading' to X2. My install was a standard upgrade install with the addition of the X2a upgrade. Has anybody seen this before. Many thanks for your thoughts

I should have been more specific. The empty space to the left is the same amount as the length of the copied clip. If one bar copied, then one bar space to the left is blank. Two bars copied, then two bars to the left is blank, etc. Strange.

What's the exact sequence of events? Are you selecting clips to copy/paste directly or (only) selecting a range in the time ruler? Are you working on just one, or several tracks at a time? What are the options set in the paste special dialog? Why are you using paste special (e.g. to ensure that automation is also copied etc.)? Are you copying/pasting on bar boundaries? Are you using CTRL-C to copy, or the copy special dialog? etc... If you can provide all the information needed to duplicate exactly what you're doing, it'll be far easier to work out what's happening.

It happens when I need to replace a section in a clip, that is, overwrite a section with the new clip. Only working on one track at a time, usually on bar boundaries. Makes no difference if CTRL-C or V or dialogs are used. I am doing exactly the same as I did in X1. Paste Special -> paste to one track -> replace old with new.

In X2 when I copied a track no matter where I dropped it it always landed on track 1. I use Cubase now. Problem solved.
