VST3 Support?
Can anyone comment on X3's support for VST3? Side chaining? I have some Waves VST3 Plug-ins and would like to know how well X3 supports any of the Waves VST3 plugs. I have been a strong proponent for VST3 support in the past...I knew it would only be a matter of time before the bakers would break down and support the API. This is very kewl if they now have full support. Thanks, -Ken

Can't speak to the Waves VST3 support but I have several VST3 plugins from Steinberg and they seem to be working fine (I just installed late last week and have only had about 8 hours to test). I believe I have heard of some issues with the Waves stuff but that may have been in relation to a bundle that was offered about six months ago by Cakewalk/Waves. Regards,
Mike Win8(64), Sonar X3e(64) w/ RME Fireface UFX.

I'm in the same boat to be honest not impressed so far with the complete lack of integration with waves.....my investment in waves is much bigger than my investment in sonar so it got me thinking

Did you download X3b? I know there are some issues we are still looking to resolve and are working with Waves to do so.

All Waves plugs that support side chain inputs are working fine for me. Not sure what issues you're having, unless it's just that it works differently from other DAWs?

Please contact our tech support. We can help diagnosis this issue. You need to supply a little more info then just it doesn't work.

Side chaining with Waves VST3 plugins works perfectly in X3 and has been verified by Waves themselves. I'm not sure what metric you are basing that observation on. The only difference is that SONAR has always required you to patch sidechain inputs from the track and not from the plugin.

Thanks Noel I think that was where I was going wrong I was expecting to see the sidechain input within the plugin as below

SONAR has always considered sidechains from the point of view of what you want to route to the sidechain - i.e. the sending track or bus. Users of some other steinberg DAW's are used to seeing sidechain from the point of view of the plugin and picking the source from there. Its just a matter of semantics. Personally I find it more natural from a routing point of view to think of it from what you are sending to the sidechain. However since some users prefer to look for it at the plugin level, we may consider adding a sidechain picker to the UI in the future.

When you switch between DAWS it is sometimes good to have some commonality between them, that's where it tripped me up. I hear what you are saying about routing but to me it makes more sense to have a common standard for VST integration as it is a standard that is here to stay. For example, as shown below, how can I automate all the parameters in Nexus with sonar? I have no icons for recording and controlling / automating the changes to the parameters as I do in all the other DAW's I use

That is a 32bit plug-in running in BitBridge. To view the standard VST header, hold the SHIFT key when opening the plug-in UI. The header usually will open behind the plug-in so it may be necessary to move the plug-in to see it. The automation controls are also on the track.

Thanks for all the feedback, looks like the water is fine except for what appear to be some small things that cake and waves are working out and I'll be getting in soon.
