Finished Demo Song?
I put a clip of this before. I sped it up 10 bmp, re-recorded and added a solo. I have played drums since I was little, in school, and in several bands. But I'm not really a guitar player, I've never had a lesson and know no theory whatsoever. So, I think the music is OKAY, there's nothing technical about it, but i think the solo is a bit lackluster. I think parts of it sound cool, but it just doesn't have that "pro" feel like someone with good "chops" has, in my opinion. I would appreciate any advice/opinions on the writing, solo, and/or mix. Not my style, but the dist. guitar is taking up a lot of airspace without any real contribution to the direction. IOW a lot of fuzz does not do anything for it as a song. The repeated riff is a good one but goes on a bit long. Maybe it could build? harmonies? What do I know?

This is my style of music. I think the music is cool. I would've put the heavy crunch guitars in each ear and moved the cleaner guitars more toward the center. But that's just me. And you say your a drummer, let me hear the drums. I like big loud drums! Cool song!

Thanks guys, very helpful, excellent comments.
@Glenn - Yes exactly what I thought, there is a lot of hollow, fuzzy, noise. And I actually though about adding another guitar melody. Maybe I will try to in the absence of vocals.
@Dude - I will try your panning suggestion and see how it sounds. Haa, yea you know when I listen in X1, or after its exported, or once it is on RN, it all sound different, and the drums are definitely weak.
Thanks for taking the time.

Sounds like a good start, but I have to agree with Glenn above in saying that beyond a certain point adding more distortion only makes it harder to distinguish the notes you're playing. I'd suggest you could back off a bit on some of those distortion sounds. That would also leave more room for drum sounds, and more drums would be good. :)

I like it. It reminds me of Queensryche. How did you record the guitars? You can get away with that much distortion but there's a trick I use to clean it up. I record my amp distorted and record a direct clean tone as well. The distorted tone from the amp by itself seems less clear but I use an amp sim on the clean tone and mix the two together. Using the amp sim tone with my amp's distorted tone really adds clarity to it. Nice stuff!

Main intro guitars too sizzley Kind of too much sizzle all over the place (ride cymbals/hats?). The drums are kind of hidden for this style of music.

Cool track, drums could use some low end punch though

Thanks everyone! Again, I can't stress enough, how much I immensely appreciate ALL of your time and comments.
LOL, everyone seems to be in agreement on the drums and the abundance of useless noise, so that was my focus in this revision. I don't have studio monitors (yet), so I have to rely on a reference track, which I didn't do on the first mix.
Waltenstein - Thanks man. I'll definitely cut back the distortion. Guitarpima, yea I a have actually done some thing similar on the bass but never tried it on guitar. I am just recording direct via scarlett 2i2, then various amp sims, none of which offer anything I would call a great heavy guitar sound. I don't have a good guitar amp or mic at the moment, but will check out that recording technique when I do. Bapu - LOL, the sizzle IS pretty horrendous, I agree. Don't know why it's so hard for me to notice it when I am working inside of Sonar. When I go back and listen now, it makes my ears hurt. Twisted6s Thanks a lot! Adding more punch!

It seems kind of disorientated to me, but this is not my genre, so what do I know. Point being is you know what your looking for, but some additional drums and less distortion would help. Also, a little more panning on the guitars. Peace and Blessings, John
