Melodyne and BSOD - Alchemy Data bank continually not found

So you had Melodyne running fine in X2, but is crashing X3? I may have to punt on this one, but the only thing that comes to mind is that most BSOD are driver related. I just posted a thread on how these can be easily checked for free (http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2909231).
 
If you run down through the threads of those who have seen X3 crash, there is a common "WAVES" theme, and plug-in issues. But, it seems you may have a simple driver conflict causing your BSODs (i.e. ntoskrnl.exe driver). So the link above may be helpful for you.

thanks Michael...I did try Iobit, but it found my Xfi driver as 'perfect'. I'll try the X3b update again and depending upon how that goes, I may uninstall/reinstall the whole thing.

I've heard this myth repeated more times than I can count. Blue screen crashes are *not* caused by user mode code like SONAR in modern Windows operating systems. The only operation that can trigger a blue screen is a crash in kernel mode code in device drivers, or other system components but not a program. If it were possible to trigger blue screens from programs, virus developers would be having a field day :)

When Microsoft Windows encounters a condition that compromises safe system operation, the system halts. This condition is called a bug check. It is also commonly referred to as a system crash, a kernel error, or a Stop error.
 
If using Melodyne is causing a blue screen you have something faulty that is either hardware related (memory fault perhaps) or there is an errant device driver. Some copy protection like PACE used to use device drivers - I'm not sure for a fact if that is the case anymore.
 

I've not encountered the K Mode Exception BSOD before, so I have no idea why I'm now getting it with X3. I have other BSOD in X2, but not this one. I'm really lost here...
 
I started getting BSOD's ages ago when I bought an expansion pack (universal) for Rapture. I would be selecting and playing/test some of the sounds and I would repeatedly get blue screens. 
 
I even built another computer system when Cakewalk support suggested a hardware issue. So I went through all that and by the time I eventually got everything up-and-running, again and again, this issue keeps occurring. The only common hardware...creative's Elite Pro soundcard! In each setup, I've had this sound card, so I'm guessing it's the evil origin?
 
I've been looking at other soundcard alternatives for a while now, but I'm so used to this setup - and there are so many options out there - that I've put it off for quite a while. The Roland Octa-Capture is looking good at this time...but it's a risk to spend money when it could be something else? Who knows as there are so many possible variations of faults and identifying the 'possible' culprit is - and I've been down this road so many times - so time-consuming.
 
I'm running the latest update for the Creative's drivers, which was fairly recently released for Win 7/8, but to no avail. Interestingly, every so often, these drivers completely disappear from my system and I have to again and again update Windows drivers...just bizarre.
 
So, at this point, I can go through the detection process as suggested by Funkybot and see if there's an issue there. I have uninstalled X3 and will try reinstalling in Safe Mode to see whether I get that msvcr71 deletefile fail:code 5 problem, which I ended up skipping in my first attempt.
 
I would sincerely love to sort this out one day, as I've been dogged by it for years now.
