Song Challenge?
OK... so it's been awhile since anyone threw down the proverbial glove and offered any kind of a challenge here.... well at least in a musical way of speaking. So.... who's up for a song challenge? No prizes, no money, no tropical vacations..... just the fun of writing. Song Topic: Anything HOLIDAY related.... Thanksgiving, Christmas are two coming up shortly.... Write, or co-write a NEW tune... no fair dusting off the old stuff... record it and get it ready to post here starting by Nov 15 and "all in" by Nov 25. Any style, any genre. Songs should have vocals. The more that join the fun, the better. Post the songs here and put "SONG CHALLENGE" on the title line of the post. Start writing.

I was thinking of finishing "Someone Ate My Thanksgiving Turkey" but may want to do "Silver Bells Are Ringing In My Ears A Lot These Days" first. :) Rimshot

Sorry Herb, but I'm a reluctant lyricist (very self critical), and just an "okay" singer. ;) I look forward to hearing what you (and others) come up with though.

Sounds like fun Herb. ...but, I have just been too busy as of late. I can't even find time right now to finish the couple of songs I have 75% completed. Hopefully work will let up soon.

It's OK...even encouraged to collaborate with others on this. You don't sing... find someone who does..... got some stuff 75% done.... find someone who can take it that other 25%..... It's all about having fun and writing songs in a specific theme. Oh yeah, and in a certain time window..... you have an easy 5 weeks to get something together. I might actually get 2 in this time.... my co-writer has one idea and I have another..... so we're contemplating working 2 at once. Talk about hectic.... or fun.... I'll tell you later.

I'm interested, Herb. After writing lyrics for three songs in the last couple months I'm a bit lyriced out. BUT, A CHALLENGE? We'll give it a try. Mark has sent some music for a possible Christmas tune. Let's see what happens.

So it can't be a cover? i.e., it's a song "writing" challenge? Not actually a performance/recording challenge? So the song could be very well written, but recorded in the worst way possible, with the worst possible performances, but because it's written the best, it's judged to be the best? I have some ideas? But I didn't write them... But I could own them...

Let's face it, "how many original Thanksgiving songs are there??" I'm sure there are a few? But seriously... And "for the record?" The OP says "Song challenge." It does not say "Song Writing Challenge..."

Herb, Well, I thought by now there would be something started, but there is not. I will contribute this and see if we can build from here. The piece I'm thinking about is here http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12296146 and is titled "Home For Christmas" and you can read under the player where I am coming from with this piece. You can download it if you like and build in front, on the end in the middle, or what ever you like instrumentally or vocally. There has to be a starting place for a collaboration, so this is one if you or anyone would like to start with this, then we can see what happens from here. If there are any questions send me a private message. Peace and Blessings, John

Well... at this point, the work should be going on and getting started behind the scenes. I have 2 collabs cooking.... with the same writer. One is my idea and the other is hers. We might simply concentrate on just one as time goes along.... but the work is started.... nothing from me until Nov 15th at the earliest on this..... I may "bump" this thread from time to time so people don't forget....
