V-Vocal Consistently Crashes on X3
I have used X2 for about a year, and I can't tell you how much I love this program. There were a couple of weird glitches, like V-Vocal crashes, but I finally got used to saving before I used V-Vocal because of that. I had hoped that they would stabilize it in X3 but I am sad to report that it is much worse. I have tried everything, including converting all of my softsynth tracks to audio and gotten rid of any extra plug ins that I don't need, and even with 4 -5 tracks stripped down I have not even been able to use V-Vocal once w/o it crashing. :( Anyone have any suggestions? Not there yet, but I am starting to wish I'd not done the upgrade.... R

Have you updated to X3B? Have you uninstalled X2? Keep in mind that VVocal is not included in X3 so you must leave it installed if you remove X2. Is VVocal crashing immediately when you create a region FX. If so it sounds like something has broken the VVocal installation and you will need to reinstall VVocal from your X2 disks. VVocal works at least as well or better than it did in X2 in X3.

I left X2 installed in case something went awry. It crashes the second I select a clip and set it to create a region I get the white screen of death. I have not installed 3B. Is there a separate executable fiile for V-Vocal on the X2 disk? Thanks for your help... R

Fantastic ... I did the X3b patch (sounds like a stop smoking campaign) and it worked. It resolved the V-Vocal crash problem. It "appears" to not be leaving those ghost tracks that X2 left after you did the V-Vocal and bounced it to track anymore which is a welcome change... My life is a dream again... I can safely go back to Gaga Land, stop whining and go make music... R

I recant my statement, X3 is a real mixed bag, some great things....but some really basic things are now awful. You simply can no longer use V-Vocal. It crashes literally every time. Sadly I used V-vocal a lot now it wont even work in X2. The second I click it I get a white screen. Can someone please help? thanks R

You almost surely have a broken VVocal installation. You should be able to reinstall VVocal from the X2 disk, by doing a minimal X2 install. Please contact tech support and they should be able to help you out. VVocal works fine in X3.

Buy doing a selective install of X2 you can select just VVocal and R-Mix (not included in X3) without installing everything else again.

I appreciate what you are saying, however I finally gave up and did some exploration of Melodyne yesterday, and ended up using that instead of V-Vocal... it worked okay yesterday, well.. Melodyne is very stable indeed with X3 there is definitely something bad at your end. I suggest you install X3E patch. Make sure melodone is up to date via its auto update facility. Then perform a RESET and then a rescan of your VST's. Then run windows update several times including most of the optional updates. If you keep having trouble you may consider more drastic action. Back up your partition, wipe it and reinstall your OS, but see if new projects rather than existing projects are effected first. Or you could do a clean removal and reinstall of Cakewalk apps but it might not be as effective. Please make sure you have a backup strategy in place. It helps you and your customers. ... and hope this helps.

What Alex says. Really seems like an installation issue. I'm one of the people who likes V-Vocal and still use it as well as Melodyne, so one of the things I really liked about X3 was V-Vocal being far more stable. When you re-install, make sure no virus protection is on. Also, the reset/re-scan is essential when updating X3.

Similar advice with vvocal then although an OS reinstall may be a little too drastic in the other posters scenario. Vvocal does very occasionally crash I notice there isn't much you can do about it. I dont expect much support from Roland in this area any more. Cake is now owned by Gibson....
And what Craig says mostly...

Have to say that VV is better for me in X3 compared to the crash fest that is could sometimes be in 8.5. I haven't used it a lot, but it seems far more stable and it still does some things better than melodyne, so I'm happy to have both. It would be nice to be able to assign a shortcut key, but other than that it's all good here.

I seem to recall Melodyne working better if Sonar is launched with Run As Administrator (don't hold me to that, as the lights are dim in many corners of the cranium room), and I wonder if that might be true for V-Vocal, as well. And one of those earlier posted errors, from back in October, looks like an access violation, which again is a privileges thing, and often the result of either not installing and/or not running with Run As Administrator. I would like to see the folks with this problem launch Sonar with Run As Administrator and see if that resolves this issue. Bob Bone

"Run as Administrator" does not fix this problem. As far as the suggestion to re-install the OS, it has taken me 3 weeks to get this far (X1 under XP to X3e under Win7-64). Uh, no. Not going to happen. As far as "small sections", it still crashes on a 4 bar chunk. My theory it is a ram problem, for I only have 4 gigs, and can't order anything until I return from Colorado.

PS: I started a support ticket about this problem, but have heard nothing. I suppose I should have written the ticket number down. Stupid me. Melodyne works well and does some cool things, even though it apparently has a memory leak in the software code (each time you stop and restart more memory is required according to Sonar's little memory doodad). However, v-vocal allows you to do some "repairs" that melodyne does not. Having both tools is the somewhat-best of worlds, although the best of worlds is to have a vocalist that can actually sing on key. Imagine that!!!
