Can't Freeze Soft Synths

Can't Freeze Soft Synths

I have a song with a number of virtual instruments (three instances of RealStrat, one Real Guitar, one RealLPC, Fab Four, Scarbee Rich Bass, Fantom Organ, two instances of EZDrummer, SD3 Drums, SI Rhodes).  I am trying to freeze some to free up CPU.  But the * to freeze each synth is grayed out.
 
What gives?  Thanks.
 
Update:  Oddly, When I right-click on the * and chose Freeze Synth, it worked and all the * icons became active again on all synths.
 
So, everything is OK, but I have no idea what happened.

    if you have a soft synth inserted as an effect on a track, you can't freeze.  filed a problem report for this one... not sure what's up with it...

    sounds like the gui isn't updated fully... fwiw I think that's the case in a bunch of the new bugs
