Since it's Fabfilter, I'll probably get it. But I must have enough multiband comps by now...?

Same here. I'm sure it's good & will demo.

The functionality in the expander appeals to me more than a multiband comp.
I hope Dan does the video, I always enjoy watching them.

Do you think it will be an upward or downward expander, though?  For mastering purposes, an upward expander would seem to make the most sense, but a downward MB expander probably has more widespread utility (essentially a MB Pro-G).

It should do both depending on how thresholds, knees & ratios are set.

Maybe with an intro offer plus your other FF plugins it might be doable?

There's also a paid update coming for Pro-Q / 2.0. Maybe it will include some type of incentive which would apply to the MB as well.

FabFilter Pro-MB is a powerful yet intuitive multiband dynamics plug-in. In this tutorial, Dan Worall introduces the plug-in and its main controls, and gives some useful examples of multiband dynamics processing on single tracks or full mixes.

It should do both depending on how thresholds, knees & ratios are set.

Well, not necessarily.  All compressors and expanders have those parameters, but they don't necessarily all do upward expansion (decompression) or upward compression (de-expansion), unless they have a dedicated mode or range of values (e.g., postive threshold).  However, Dan Warrell did confirm on KVR that Pro-MB will do upward and downward compression and expansion.

Really?!  Any idea what it will have/do that v1 doesn't?

Well yes, I assumed FF would have these features included like other MB's do.

Pro-Q will have improvements & new features. I'm guessing comparable to DMG's Equilibrium.

Re: FabFilter Pro-MB | Oct 17 Release 2013/10/16 18:42:00 (permalink)
Edit:  I checked the YouTube video - Nice... looks like FabFilter put a lot of thought into it.
Even so, I've already hit the G.A.S. pedal a couple time recently so it's not in the budget right now.

Simi-related - speaking of multi-band I picked up Blue Cat's MB-7 Mixer before I heard about this and have been playing with it.   You can have up to 7 bands and the ability to insert & stack VSTs in any band (comp, limiter, saturation or other FX's) or just use it as an EQ.
I'm not really a fan of stacking FXs in a plug-in, prefer to handle in the DAW but being able to add FXs within a band is pretty cool.  They've got some pretty cool demo videos on their web site.
They had a 20% off sale that was supposed to end on the 15th but looks like they're still honoring it.

Anyway back to the previous subject...

This video is great as are all  of Dan's.  I had been wondering when Fabfilter would come out with a MB.  Strange that it took this long.  Will be watching for a sale to grab this.

1) xmas discount (as past years.. but maybe only bundles *sigh* )

2) intro offer (like d16 / uhe did recently :) )

place ya bets..

very tempted.. and like the rest of you I own 1+ thing that already does it.. how it looks visually appeals to me as well, with regard to how it moves the curve also, as opposed to just the raw signal.

This thing is sweet, it's a done deal here.

Try the demo if you can. Very useful for adding dynamics & adding clarity.
Start with the presets as starting points then start adjusting.
I had a few glitches, not sure if it's from the oversampling otherwise it's functioning well.

Off now to dig deeper.

Just checked how much it would cost me by logging into my FF account.  They discount based upon how many other FF plugins you already own.  For me the MB would cost $137.40.  That is a 40% discount.  While a good deal, I will have to wait for now as I spent my savings on Orange Tree GB and X3 upgrade.  It looks pretty and I now FF did it right, just money is too tight.  Bad timing.

Re: FabFilter Pro-MB 2013/10/18 14:54:56 (permalink)
Well I have to say this is my fav FF plugin so far.
It's also the my fav MB that I own.
Very easy to set up & use. You don't have to worry so much about screwing up crossover points like many others.
It functions differently than typical MB's do.

I usually don't use MB's very much at all as they can easily trash a track or mix but this one is very transparent & smooth to my ears.

To really test I tried it on a few orchestral stems, usually I'll only use MB for plosives.
Using 4 bands I'm able to gently eq the entire freq. spectrum, achieving a bit more clarity without destroying or squashing dynamics. I'm not getting as much of that typical & obvious harshness as with most MB's.

I'm pleasantly impressed so far.
Checking out the SC features next.

The good thing about FF is the discount is always there.

If history is any guide, there won't be a sale of this effect individually.  There probably will be a 25% off bundle sale near the holidays.  The only individual effect I've ever seen on sale by FF is Timeless 2, possible to counter the release of FXpansion's Bloom super-delay.

$137.40, No-Brainer!
Why would you "need" the Pro-MB, the same reason you "need" anything Fab Filter;
its the "best" at what it does!
