Warning: Roland Quad Capture and Windows 8.1 = no function

After update to Windows 8.1 the Quad capture is dead.

I posted a thread on this about a month ago...

I was using the 8.1 Preview and the Quad wouldn't even be recognized by 8.1...
I'm waiting for Roland to release 1.5.2 update before I upgrade to 8.1..

Sorry to hear that, but thanks for the warning. Roland will most likely have the new driver available soon after the official 8.1 release (tomorrow).

In the meantime, this thread discusses a workaround:

IIRC Roland has drug their feet supporting the QC in the past (as they have with a lot of their hardware). It's one of the reasons, although it sounds like a very nice interface, I do not think I'd snag one. Also now that Roland has split from Cake I'm extra glad I didn't go down that particular avenue. It was always touted as the best interface for Sonar but I've seen far more problem threads arise from it than I've seen for Focusrite stuff (which is what I bought). This could be from the fact more Sonar users own the QC but out of all the things I've had to worry about with my system my 18i6 hasn't caused me to question it even once.

What I'd really like though is a nice MOTU but that stuffs pretty pricey. I'm starting to see RME as a good option too but we do seem to get quite a few problem threads with those (but probably more due to firewire problems than the actual units). Then again my focusrite has been so sturdy performancewise (however I think one of my multi ins is starting to have a physical connection problem... wish those inputs were more solid) that next time around I might very well just get one of their fancier units.

I'd say if Roland piddles around putting out drivers ya'll should band together and flood them complaints until they get their shiz together. I'd be pretty miffed if I had to wait more than a couple months for drivers.

Then again I try not to use anything that isn't at least a couple years old and been through the paces unless there isn't much choice.

Thank you.
I have tested the trick with the patched inf-File in the link. Unfortunately, the trick in the link does no longer work in the final Windows 8.1. It fails with a wrong hash value. I also have disabled the integrity check.
We have to wait for the final 8.1 drivers.

Octa drivers were out pretty damn quick after win 8 was released so hopefully it won't be a long wait. Fingers crossed for you!

I have a Octa-Capture and Windows 8.   If I were to perform an upgrade to Windows 8.1 and my Octa Capture didn't work as a result, I'd go crazzzzzy.  That's why I don't allow Windows to automatically update itself.

I've just switched to a Focusrite 18i20. It works perfect with Windows 8.1.
And the Quad Capture connected to an other Computer with Windows 7.
Since we mainly digitize recordings for custumers (tapes, vinyl) on several computers we always have a few audio interfaces in the box.
RME HDSP 9632 is also perfect running with 8.1

my quad capture is working after following these specific instructions from the link posted by Beepster http://www.rolandforums.co.uk/forums/viewthread/6335/#7818

EDIT: Fixed by editing the .inf driver settings in the Win8 x64 folder. Where it says ;;not supported, changed to [Roland.NTamd64.6.3]
;; Windows 8.1
%RDID0117DeviceDesc%=RDID0117Install, USB\VID_0582&PID_012F ; QUAD-CAPTURE

then followed the instruction here to bypass driver signing errors.
http://tivadj-tech.blogsp...r-when-installing.html

If you look in the .inf file a couple of lines above the place needing to be edited, the line you want is already written out. It works to just copy and paste this line.

I'm confident that all Roland-gear with Windows 8 drivers will get 8.1 drivers aswell. For me I'm impressed that they, once again, launched the drivers on the same day as the new version of the operating system.

To the OP: Do you mean that it won't work with the 8.1 drivers? Otherwise I suggest you change the headline.

Best Regards
Ludvig

I did the upgrade to 8.1...went smooth...

I installed the new QC Driver...smooth..

Ran X3...and now my faders are completely wacked.
If I move them at all they jump all over...

If I use the mouse wheel they move fine...but click and drag is wacked..
will post back if I find a fix...

X3 function so far seems ok other then the fader issue...but when I found that
I came here immediately...

Will continue on and report back..

It was actually Groovey1 that posted that. I was just quoting him/her. ;-)

Looks like they got the new drivers out anyway. I take back my previous comment about slow driver release for the QC. Looks like they're on it. Still feel bad for those who dropped serious cash on those expensive studio controllers. I really hope they fix that for you guys. $2000 is a lot of dough to spend for something that turned into a pumpkin within a couple years.

Hey everyone: Windows 8.1 drivers are now available here:

Roland waits until Day 1 of official release as sometimes things change at the last minute. Each product is tested with the actual public release before being posted. If all is good may I ask that the thread title be changes to reflect that?

Thanks!

My Octa-Capture, at least playback, was working OK on Win 8.1 with the 1.5.1 driver.  However, I upgraded to the 1.5.2 driver to be safe.

Ok..update...I decided to see if the Video Driver was the culprit
so I rolled back to the Win 8 driver, which was fine...NOPE...
problem with jumpy faders persists...so may be something
to do with Windows graphics handling/Touch..blah blah blah..
don't know...but, hopefully Win 8.1 drivers are available soon,
and/or X3c solves the issues...

More to come....

Hi,

I have the new drivers installed for my Octa Capture.  MIDI In is not responding.  Anyone else experience this?

PS - [edited]

No luck with my UM-ONE either so is this a Roland issue or a Windows 8.1 issue?

PPS - [edited]

Got the MIDI working, it was a combination of config issues in the SW and the equipment it was connected to.  But when I tried using my Pod X3 Live as a USB audio interface (with UM-ONE for the MIDI) my PC would eventually lose audio and then blue screen.  I guess Line-6 isn't as on the ball for updating drivers for Win 8.1 as Roland is.
