Problem Recording a Solo

I'm recording a guitar solo by parts in SONAR X2 and when I'm about to record the next part of the solo I cannot hear the previous clip recorded so I can follow the  the sense of the solo. What I'm doing is to add a new take for the part I'm recording. When I press the record button all the previous clips are like muted and non of the previous material can be heard. What am I doing wrong?. This did not happen in v8.5, in fact 8.5 had a complete different way to manage clip recording. When you were about to record anew take SONAR picked another clip automatically.

    Try this:
Edit > Preferences > Project(Record) > under "Recording mode" check "Sound on Sound (Blend)" .

Can you hear your individual takes after recording? Could be a hardware related problem...

Are you just loop recording or are you utilizing Punch In recording?  If you loop the section in your project surrounding the solo (without arming the guitar track), you can specify the area you wish to record over using Punch In and Out.  That way you can hear the previous take up until you get to the punch in area and record a new take with every pass and while muting the old take in the Punch In section.  Make sure you make the appropriate settings in Preferences.

I'm not using Punch in nor looping the section. I just record a part and then rewind a little bit, arm the track and start playing (recording) when I consider to do so. When finished I edit and combine all the clips bouncing them into a single one. I've been doing it this way for 10+ years with Sonar 8.5 and all previous versions. I don't know why X series reacts this way. It has to be a way or setting that allows to do it.

I suggest you try using Punch In.  That is why it is there from way back when (pre X series).  Try it, you might like it.  A note, the Bakers have made many changes to the recording behavior such as the Comping feature (see Edit|Preferences|Project|Recording Mode) in X3.

Yes I've use punch in many times I don't know why I quit using it and started using  other technique. I'll be using Punch In from now on. Thanks for the replies.
