missing VSTs - sonitus
hi folks, not too long ago I had a computer crash. I had sonar producer 5 on WIN XP (32bit). lately I bought X1 producer (I have WIN7/64bit now). i tried to load the old songs (bundles), but sonar keeps telling me it cannot find the sonitus VSTs that were embedded. I already tried copying the Shared PlugIn folder (containing all sonitus fx) and put it into different locations (programs/VSTs, programs/steinberg/VSTplugins, programs(x86)/VSTplugins and all other possibilities) but still they cannot be found. however, I'm able to load the sonitus VSTs as new effects into the project, but of course without the correct settings. I realized the plugings that cannot be found are named for example 'sonitusfx:delay' and when I load the sonitus delay as a new effect its name is just 'delay', but in the VST folder the name of the effect is 'sonitusfx:delay', so renaming is not an option. any ideas would be very much appreciated.

they are dxi plugs and should be found under the dxi listing.

well, they are there. and active. like I said: I can pick for example the sonitus delay and use it, save the setting and so on. but if it is embedded in a song that I made with sonar5, it can't be found when I load the song. I can only load it as a new plugin without the saved setting. sorry if I missed something, but how can finding it in the dx listing (guess you're talking about the plugin manager) help me?

I seem to recall having a similar problem with I think Dimension Pro when I switched for an old DX version to a 64 bit version. It's possible that the 64 bit versions have a different CLSID #'s assigned to them (verses their 32 bit counter parts) so that Sonar regards them as being different plug-ins. Can't verify this because I only have the 64 bit versions installed on my current system. I'd contact support and see it they have some way of remapping the Sonitus references in your project so that it picks up the current 64 bit versions. May not be possible but it's worth a shot.

I'd recommend support as well. I only go back to hs7xl, but jumped to x1 pretty quickly. If you have 5 loaded i bet you could save the presets and import them into the current plugs.

i have some CLSID issues with other effects, but sonar gives me an option to redirect them to other, similar effects, which are usually the 64bit versions of the old effects, so that works well. but in case of the sonitus effects, there is no such option. and: no, I don't own sonar5 any more. but the presets of the old sonitus versions don't appear in the new version anyway. yeah, I'll get in touch with the support. but thank you all. edit: X1 is no longer supported. dang!

In X1 Bit bridge is suppose to wrap the Sonitus plugs and make them available in the 64 bit version. What I would try is find your sonitus plug in the Left Hand side of the plug in manager, select it (the plug) and then in the upper right hand corner of the plug in manager box there may / should be a check box to use to make sure that the Dxi plug is wrapped.... Now I have X1 as well but I also bought J-Bridge ($20 no brainer) and sometimes I have to use this technique only it asks me if I would like to use J-Bridge to wrap the plug....I check the box and it works for me.... Just a suggestion to try.... Clifford

I don't think this is right. As mentioned previously, Sonitus FX are DX plugins, and Bitbridge/Jbridge only apply to VSTs. I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that any DX plugins still working in x64 had been recompiled to be x64 native. In fact, that could be the OP's issue... that old projects are referencing the 32-bit plugins. If that's the case, installing 32-bit X1 (it can co-exist with the SONAR x64) might resolve the issue. It might also be possible to only install the Sonitus plugs after selecting 32-bit and Advanced in the installer. But I would suggest the OP take this issue to Cakewalk Tech Support, as it's hard to say what all might have changed since S5 (!).

DX plugs are not VSTs - Only VSTs use bit bridge.
- In Sonar 32 bit you can only use DX plugs that are 32 bit, in Sonar 64 bit you can only use DX plugs that 64 bit.
The 64 bit version of Sonar can't see/can't find 32 bit DX plug-ins. Unless you have the 32 bit version of Sonar installed - installing the 32 bit DX versions wouldn't do you any good. - From jBridge website:
"jBridge is an application designed for bridging VST plugins in Windows (up to the 2.4 VST specification)."

A good suggestion - If you install the 32 bit X1 you can either just keep the project 32 bit or open your project in X1 32 bit to document the your settings that had then re-apply them in a X1 64 bit. Assuming that Cake support doesn't have someway to remap the DX references used in your project - this may end up being your only solution. [edited - reworded to improve clarity]

i never thought about installing the 32bit version as well. this is my 1st comp running in 64 bit and when I got it new I thought I can only install 64bit software. great. I'm just installing the 32bit version and hope everything will work out fine. Thanks a lot for your help!!!! especially brundle for this idea.

well, it seems that even if you install the 32bit-version it doesn't work. i did the following: installed the 32bit version in a different folder, added the new 'shared plugins' folder to the plugin manager, still the sonitus effects only appeared once (guess in the old, 64 bit version). so I temporary deleted the 'shared plugins' folder in the 64bit version and replaced it with the 32bit version, so that only the 32bits existed, started the 32version of X1 again, and still...nothing worked. nice try, though. edit: the presets of the 32 bit versions still seem to be embedded in the bundle file of the songs, since the plugin replacer tells me, that it's still there. is there any way to access the presets of the old versions? the X1 plugin manager tells me where it stores the 64bit presets, but the 32bit versions don't seem to be somewhere..

When you installed x1 32 bit did you install the plug-ins? Otherwise you won't get the 32 bit versions. You never have to scan for DX plug-ins - they're not VSTs, they're an extension of the DirectX system used by Windows. Once installed anywhere on your computer any app that can use DX plugs can see them. 32/64 DX plug-ins are separate animals and they don't interact. I guess its possible that they could sharing patch libraries or share some registry setting that would be unique to that particular plug-in - but having one installed won't prevent you from using the other. Regarding accessing preset info from project files? As far as I know only Cakewalk support can help you on that.

yeah, of course i also installed the plugins. like i said: i deleted the dx plugins from the 64bit versions, so that only the ones from the 32bit installation were there. X1 is no longer supported by the cakewalk support, but i already gave it a try and wrote a msg. thanks y'all.
