Automation Discomfort

I'm simply trying to automate the Filter cutoff knob in Omnisphere. I've created a separate track for automation.  I've hit the assign control button in the synth rack and assigned that control. But, after the assignment... when I turn the control...it doesn't move the cutoff knob in the synth properties page...or effect the sound in any way either...no surprise here. I was able to automate a fader after I CC learned the control to my Axiom 61. Although, the automation read and write functions did nothing. I had to arm the track and record the automation. Since the newly created knob (A1 Filt Cutoff) under the synth rack didn't turn the  knob in the synth properties I right clicked and selected remote control and learned the same fader that was learned previously. So, the new control still doesn't move the cutoff knob in the synth properties page. But, If I move the fader on my Axiom, both controls move.  Never the less. The only way I can record automation is during record in the clips pane. I'm not able to use the write automation function and simply hit play. When I did select the control in Automation in the drop down menu of the track..there would be the selection for Omnisphere in bold...and the the filter selection which I then selected. But, it's obviously not the correct connection because it's not effecting the cutoff. If I'm moving this fader and it's connected to a particular control shouldn't it display the correct automation in the Automation lane? I'm stuck here. I've been working with the automation in the clips pane but I don't want to have to use my mouse and draw it in and edit it that way. I want to use the line segments with the nodes. But, if I assign that control in the synth rack, and the control pops up in the list of automatable controls, then shouldn't it move when I turn it? I've been trying to solve this for 3 days now. 
 
OK, I just inserted Kontakt and The Retro Machine. I didn't have any problems assigning the controls and it worked just fine. So, I guess there is something up in Omniphere? I'm just puzzled that I can click on a control to assign it and it doesn't make that connection but puts a knob down there that doesn't' work. lol  So bummed.
