Intresting. I have the Kontakt version so I will probably pass, $10 cheaper and I may have gone for it for improved workflow.

Me too. Shame about most of the cymbals having no direct channels, should have read the small print Steve

Thanks for the heads up Steve, and thanks also for the caveat about the cymbals. No direct channels? That's an oversight surely???? Do they only come up in the overheads & room mics then?

It's weird but yes that's how it seems. I should have listened to Jords advice on the fx forum as he's complained about their lack of direct channels but it's worse than I'd though. No direct channels means you can't pan them individual or route them but I'll play around with them some more later as I'm on my way out now. Steve

Yes very disappointing on the cymbals and cowbell front, no direct channels so no panning. Can't even rout them out to individual tracks in sonar, I tried to do it by routing the cymbals to an aux bus but that didn't work either. Not sure I'd have bought it had I known that and certainly not for the retail price. Steve

So how are they sounding in the Overheads Steve - are they panned within BFD or right up the middle centre panned?

It's all a bit weird and confusing. There are two kits that come with 6 cymbals and a cow bell loaded and some of them are slightly panned. The odd thing is although there are 6 cymbals and a cowbell loaded and you can play them via the the kit view only three cymbals and the cow bell are represented in the channel view so there are three remaining cymbals that aren't. But then given that there are no direct channels for them it hardly seems necessary to have channels showing for them anyway. You can't after all use the pan or volume on the four channels and as I said, routing it direct to sonar or via an aux does nothing since they don't work as direct channels. In BFD2 they are not represented in the mixer view which is probably how it ought to be I guess. I feel a bit cheated to be honest as when it says it's available in BFD2 & 3 format it's really only partially available. I'm kind of ok with it in the sense that I can just replace those cymbals with better ones anyway but I'm still not entirely happy. Steve

You have better cymbals than Neil? And I was certain his last name is Peart, no? Maybe that explains the cymbal problem

Bapu Every single one of my cymbals has a direct channel so in that sense they are all far far better than the neil peart ones because I can actually do stuff with them. What if I want to add effects to the cymbals as I often do ? I can only do that by adding effects in the ambient channels and I can't do that without effecting all the other kit pieces that are being sent to my ambient channels. I can't even pan them. And since they have no direct channels I can't route them out in to sonar so to me they are utterly useless. Yes they sound ok but they really don't sound any better that the stock BFD2 ones and are nowhere near as good as the platinum sample kits that ship with BFD3 so I don't see myself ever using them. So all in all I have just spent $39 for some very nice toms and an ok snare and kick drum. I'm just really glad I didn't pay the full $99 for them as I'd have felt very ripped off. Steve
