Yamaha 01v96i Sonar and Cubase (Solved)
Hi I`v been trying to make my new 01v96i to work as a control surface for Sonar X3b for 6 days with no luck. Now bundled with my yamaha I had cubase AI 6,so I thought maybe I should install it see how it works with Yamaha as a control surface.I already new that it had the plugin for it so I gave it a try.I never touched cubase in my life but in 15 minutes it was working flawless full control and even the names of the tracks.I was just opening a project tuturial from cubase. If only that plugin worked with sonar. At least now I know that my Yamaha works great as a control surface as well.Maybe one day Sonar will support Yamaha digital mixers.Probably I have to wait till Yamaha buys Cakewalk from Gibson. Peace

This is a very busy forum lately in 8 hours you can`t see your post unless you scroll two pages or something ahead.Like the good old times when from Pro audio 9.3 went to Sonar 1. Peace

Does the Yamaha board support mackie emulation? If so you could use the mackie control surface in Sonar.

Looks like it does from the first guy that responded. I only briefly scanned the article though. http://www.gearslutz.com/...617-yamaha-01v96i.html"There's also a remote layer on this mixer so you can use it as a control surface. I've set it up for use in Protools and it works OK. In Protools it is restricted to HUI mode which is OK for basic fader and pan automation of a few tracks, but honestly not much else. If your DAW supports Mackie control, apparently things get a lot better. Anyway, seeing as I'm only doing radio work, HUI mode is just fine."

I connected it with the CH Labs Motormix Dll and it worked at least I have Faders Mute and Solo working. The only small problem is i would like to control at least 16 tracks but it only does 8 tracks and when i add another one in sonar the 1st 8 faders and the the 2nd 8 faders in yamaha they both control the first 8 tracks in sonar. This must be HUI Thanks alot.I`ll keep on trying. Edit. Solved all I had to do is to slide one of the wai in the track view now I can control all 16 tracks seperatly.I see if can set Track Arming cause thats the only other control I really needed. Thanks again to all who helped. Peace

I would think mackie control would be better than motor mix? If mackie control doesn't work perhaps there is a setting on the Yamaha to put it in that mode? A lot of control surfaces support mackie emulation. But motor mix is proprietary.

yamaha won't buy cake, why would they , they own Steinberg. but I really hope the ex London staff of a certain notation software (now at yamaha) really teach the people who bought them out a lesson or 5 , a big dose of karma

"yamaha won't buy cake, why would they , they own Steinberg.: Because Sonar is better and sells more. "Probably I have to wait till Yamaha buys Cakewalk from Gibson." I said that in a sense of humor,I`m not expecting Gibson to sell something just bought. The point is that this thread is solved. All the people who have a Yamaha 01v96i can use the CH Labs Motormix Dll,it works like a charm no setting needed, just put the Yamaha in Pro Tools mode and you`re up and running. Like WDI said probably it will work with Mackie dll as well when I have some time I`ll cheack that out ,for the sake of others , so they wont spend a week to figure that out. Time to do some real studio work ,Music. Peace

I find it so funny your using the motormix dll. Nothing wrong with that. It's just that I actually have a motormix and have been complaining to cakewalk to fix the dll ever since I upgraded to Sonar 7 many many eons ago. They were able to reproduce the problems I was having but I guess never found the time to fix it. It's a shame though because its a very nice small format control surface.

WDI I`m only using the dll of motormix not the hardware and I only want Faders Mute Solo and Track Rec Arming,so it`s not like I`m using much of it.Oh yes and this Yamaha is a monster in all senses, the convertors are even better than Motu 24i/o cause I have both, the routing and pacthing ,I can do with it is massive. As a control Surface you have to use it with Pro Tools to have all Benefits but for me it`s not a problem cause my future control surface is gonna be a 40 inch touch screen inclined 30 degrees in front of another monitor. With Sonar this is already possible. Peace

really ? because you know BOTH companies sales figures ? think you'll find cubase sells more (partly due to being on mac also) I own both, and certain things I prefer in cubase , that have been brought up a few times on here... to a point where sonar needs to up it's game to get my yearly sub now.

Hi chrguy, yes you can but very limited. You can control faders mute and solo an each track. 1. Put your 01v96i in Pro Tools mode. 2. Assign a midi port number from 1 to 8 on your 01v96i for DAW in midi setup. 3. Then in sonar go to preferences control surface and add the CH Labs Motormix and assign the same midi port number as you selected in the yamaha, and that`s it. This is not supported by anybody,I found this by incidence. Peace.
