Is there a X3 video on audio to midi conversion (ARA)?

I looked on the sonar website but couldn't find any info on the "drag audio" onto a Midi? track and it converts it to midi.
I remember some new X3 feature like, sing into the microphone, drop it onto a synth and poof a piano plays what you sang.

drag the wav track to a midi track, and it will turn it into midi data

We are working on the next round of videos. Covering some of the cool things you can do with SONAR X3's ARA integration seems appropriate. In the meantime, check out this blog which shows you how to do it. It's pretty straight forward in SONAR X3.

Thank you! I get it now. I'll need to bounce a track down from the project and then drag it in from the browser. I tried just grabing a track that I recorded and dropping it on a midi track but that didn't work. I'll give this another try tonight.

Yeah it's not just a matter of dragging an audio clip onto a MIDI track, you have to make it a Melodyne clip first.

No, you do not need to make it a Melodyne clip first.  An ordinary wave clip will work.  Everything else is taken care of "under the hood".

If the results aren't too good, and editing the MIDI doesn't help, then maybe open it in melodyne and clean up the detected notes.

Yeah, as the blog outlines you can just grab random clips from the Browser onto MIDI tracks and let it do its thing.  However, you don't have any control over the conversion in that scenario, so as jb101 said you can manually convert first to do a little cleanup, and then drag the cleaned up version to your MIDI track.  But to be honest, I've actually had pretty consistently good results just by dragging directly in.

This is such a cool and useful feature, that it's starting to become one my favorite parts about X3.

I have successfully used this feature in the studio for tasks as simple as creating a midi track from an audio kick track so that I could reinforce it to converting a rappers sung chorus to notes so I could layer a synth melody under him singing.  Highly useful and easy to implement feature.

Ok I sort of got conflicting info here. Just to be clear this has to be an audio file taken from the browser. You just can't record a sound directly into your project and then just grab it and drop it onto a midi track (I tried this and it did not work). You would need to bounce it down onto your computer somewhere/anywhere and then drag this newly bounced audio file through the browser and drop it onto a midi track. Right?

No you don't have to do all that.

Just drag a "mono" audio clip onto a midi track and it gets converted.
