[Answered] Open/Save/Close/Exit Options...

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to add tool bar settings in sonar, I like to click on Save often whenever I make a change that I'm happy with... Is it possible to replace th "Sonar X3" image with these tool options, for example place "Open", "Save", "Close" and "Exit" icons in the place of the Sonar X3?

No, it's not possible to customize the buttons in the Control Bar... only the modules, unfortunately. Hopefully, we'll see a feature like that in a future version.

Shucks - and while I'm at it, would be very nice to be able to hide the menu bar, ie File/Edit/Views etc,... in Full Screen View, and when you need to select an option from it, you could move mouse to the top edge of the screen and menu bar pops/scrolls down...

As a hint, do yourself a favor that will pay off for years and learn the standard Windows shortcuts for these tasks. Ctrl+S to save, Ctrl+O to open, Ctrl+N for new, Ctrl+C to copy, etc. Your hands will thank you for it. Though, if you're not near a keyboard at all times, I can see that as a reason for icons.

I hear yah, although more often than not I am armed with a guitar and while holding a guitar can become awkward to ctrl sequences... With a "Touchscreen" I could simply hit the "Save" button...  One of the biggest selling points for me on sonar is its touchscreen functionality...

Also like to see an option under the "Window" an "Auto-hide Menu" so to hide the menu bar in full screen viewing and when I gravitate towards the menu bar it slides in view..

I've been complaining about the loss of these buttons, too! I used them all the time and, I really miss them. I hate keyboard commands!

If you have a fairly large screen, it might be possible to use an onscreen virtual keyboard to send keyboard shortcuts with clicks of the mouse.  I just tried the one that comes with Win7 and it works for the simple stuff like the screen set numbers and the one letter shortcuts.  It did disappear on me once in my quick trial though.

A better solution might be this one but it isn't free (30$).  Seems pretty flexible and at least one of the example keyboards looks pretty small.  I imagine this one can be programmed to send any key combination/sequence.

I don't think this would work well for functions that require you to hold a key down while moving the mouse.  For instance, using the Win7 virtual keyboard and pressing J for jog works as far as activating the jog with a click to the J, but you can't turn it off (doesn't make sense but that's what it does).

Someone mentioned today the situation where you've got guitar in hand and keyboard shortcuts are awkward.  A virtual keyboard may be the answer.  I just searched quite a bit and am a bit surprised that no one seems to have made a small clickable button pad with programmable keyboard shortcuts assigned to each button.  There was one that looked promising but it was only for Mac.

    Hi Paul,

I guess what could be some what a better, or maybe even the best option is to try using voice commands - I'll give it a dig sometime later next week when I find the time to mess around with it...

Edit: Just gave this a second thought and my guess is it won't work as the sound card may need exclusive use by Sonar

I hate to suggest it, but if you are comfortable with MIDI try using a controller.  If MIDI is not your thing, I wish I could offer something else.  I too wish we could customize the CB modules/controls or at least have some of those old icon tools back.  So goes advancement.

    Kind regards,

P.S.  No offense, but now that Halloween is over, any plans to change your avatar?
