Zoom G3X Guitar MFX Device Issue (Sonar X2)

Supposedly my recently purchased Zoom G3X guitar FX pedal can record to DAW software direct via USB. When I launch Sonar X2 Producer, it saw the device, but recognized it as a MIDI device, not an audio device. What's up with that?

Windows 7 does see it as an audio device and when I strum my guitar the input meter lights up in the Sound control panel applet.

I just want to use it to record scratch guitar tracks with my band and was hoping I could free up an input on my audio interface by using the USB option.

Any tips on how to get audio recording direct via USB with this device?

If you have another audio interface and you are using ASIO recording mode, only one audio i/o driver can be used by SONAR at a time. This restriction is part of the ASIO speciication. To see the Zoom as an audio interface, deselect the current audio input and option from your audio device setup in SONAR.

I think Sonar sees the Zoom as a MIDI controller and "device" in general... the AUDIO will be recorded in Sonar by using the ASIO driver for the Zoom unit.. and selecting that. Meanwhile, Sonar will let you record MIDI information from the Zoom as well.. so you can "automate" your patch changes and other things like changing the parameters on the FX using MIDI thru Sonar. But the audio will only be recorded THRU the audio driver... you can use BOTH the Zoom Audio driver and the Zoom G3 midi device at the same time.. but you can't use the Zoom AUDIO and another audio interface at the same time.. SO.. you will have to LISTEN to your audio THRU the Zoom while recording audio from it via USB.

    Hope this helps...

You nailed it. It turns out that I didn't install the G3X audio driver which I assumed was installed with their other software. Once I did that and updated the firmware to 2.10, I could see the Zoom as an audio device but it was grayed out. If I deselected all the Mackie Onyx ASIO inputs AND outputs, then the Zoom options were enabled. Select the Zoom option and all the Mackie input and output options are grayed out.

So I guess I just use the mono line output of the G3X into a line input on the Mackie when recording scratch tracks.

Thanks so much for the reply!
