Good Night Mr. Blues (back to the Blues)
Back to the Blues. Here is a brief number which has been done in the Memphis Blues style that would be along the lines of Bobby "Blue Bland, the Beale Streeters, etc. At least that was the intent. What is it that they say about the paving on the road to hell? I am still fighting with MIDI and the input latency with my keyboard and sound card but I went ahead and put the horns in this number in spite of that. I don't quite have the patience that I need to correct this problem in using the piano roll view. Your suggestions, crit.'s, comments, etc., as always, will be appreciated. I received a number of good suggestions on my last post. I can apply a lot of them to future projects as well. Thanks. Man, Your just churning them out. I like this one a lot. Being from the south I have been musically raised on the blues. This sounds like the real deal to me. Great job!

Nice one Freddy! The horns sound good to me. Great, natural sounding vocals on this one. A winner!

Freddaaaaay! This is so saturated, it came pouring out of my phones! It was so wet and blue! (I was wishing it was wet and pink...) The question is, "Can Blue men sing the Whites?" (I too think you accomplished what you set out to do... WHICH WAS TO ROCK!) (That was one of my pseudonyms back in the day when I acted in films... "Rock Hard." They were documentaries on Rock and Roll? But some of the more prudish among may have taken it in another way? They always do that.)

I think you accomplished what you set out to do Freddie. Has that good old southern blues sounds from that era and you did a good job on this and the vocals were right on the money. Nice One. Peace and Blessings, John

Congrats, Freddy. When you return to your roots, you have authenticity that is often lacking in today's music. I can feel your blues from here.

I can feel the heat of the swamp - even over here in freezin' cold Germany in November - when I listen to this! Very authentic, just as Lynn mentioned. The horns are good too, the latency did not harm the performance!

Thanks Clint. I appreciate the comments. When, in your formative years, you grow up eating the Blues for breakfast, lunch, and dinner they kinda get under your skin. Many thanks Walt. I appreciate it. Hey Robby -- thanks! "Can blue men sing the whites?" Did you come up with that on your own? That just struck me as really funny. I read that - started laughing hard --- and then had to dry off the seat I was sitting in. Thank you John. I know my Blues tend to get stuck in that vintage era (late '40'4, '50's, and early '60's) but there was just so much going on in the Blues at that time. Not only a bunch of different sub-genre but experimentation with techniques like distortion, with style, etc. This was also the era where rhythm and beat was driving the blues and I am a rhythm nut. Thanks again.

Thanks Lynn. I am glad that you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words. Hi Mark. Thank you my friend. You indeed are most kind. Hey Thomas. Thanks for the kind feedback. I do struggle with the latency and I haven't managed to come up with a solution yet. It feels like a week from the time I push the key on the keyboard and it registers on the computer. BTW we have lots of swamps here in Florida maybe that is some of the heat that you are feeling (lol). Thanks again. Hi Rik. I appreciate the kind words. I am stuck a bit in the 1950's and early 1960's Blues (maybe that is because I am approaching vintage myself). ;>) As I said in my response to your last post ---- I hope that you continue to post on the Cakewalk forum.

Thank you Champagne Charlie. I love all kinds of music but the Blues is always the base. I took a listen to some of your stuff and it looks like we might both have an appreciation of some of the "old Blues guys" (e.g., early Chicago and Memphis sounds). Hey Bob. Thank you my friend. I very much appreciate your very kind comments. I hope that your new cd is doing well. Thanks Herb. I am finding that as my chronology advances (how to you like that for an obfuscating phrase) that my voice is getting more and more gravelly sounding. I guess that I will have to take up the songs and styles of Blues mumblers like John Lee Hooker or Jimmy Reed. ;>)
