Cut my finger today with the hedge trimmer.... OUCH.

I usually cut the extension cord but this time I got my left index finger just below my knuckle on the pad, in the fleshy part. I cut it pretty good. It didn't go straight in but at an angle. The numbing shots hurt a LOT more than the cut but I reckon that the cleaning and stitching would have been a lot worse without the shots. Got 4 stitches. I cannot type with my index finger, it is still numb, is like having a wooden finger. I guess it could have been a lot worse. I just pressed my thumb on it, loaded my stuff in my truck and drove to the closest "Urgent Care" sort of place. Since I now have a 10k deductable I just paid cash and got a 30% discount, 250.00 and that covers any complications and removal of stitches for 10 days.

I guess I wont be playing guitar for a few days. I seem to have not cut the little artery or any nerve that feeds my fingertip... I am SO glad for that!!!

I've been trying to clean up a rental house that we have (don't ask... I never wanted another rental, had one once before). The tenants moved out after 9mos, owing a month, left all their stuff... was so roach infested it all was thrown in a dumpster. I am a lisenced PCO and have been killing roaches for three weeks. They broke three doors, cracked the inside of the fridge, broke the handle off the built in microwave, broke globes on 4 light fixtures, put food and other stuff in floor vents... It has been a nightmare and today I was going to trim the out of control shrubbery by the front door.. I trimmed my finger instead. I have some cool pictures but probably shouldn't post them since halloween is over.
Anything to get out of work, huh??

Just for future reference, remember to turn the lawn more off before clearing out any grass stuck in the exit.

I have a rental as well and so far...close to 10 years.... I've had good tenants in there.  I charge above the average rates locally and require a month's rent deposit. Doing that has kept the riff raff out. The last one spent a full day cleaning the house from top to bottom after she got her furniture out.... I didn't tell her she had to do that, I simply asked her to leave the house in the same shape as it was when she moved in.  Now.... I have another tenant moving out in a few more days.... and told her the same thing. we shall see how well she does.

My kicker is having to squeeze in the time to do the work patching and painting...and this time around, it's a plumbing upgrade to the pipes plus the kitchen and bathroom floors need repairing. And I'm considering tile to end the flooring issues.

I keep the bushes trimmed about once a year and I use the hand powered oversize scissors looking hedge trimmers. It's work but no fingers get in the blades.

Hope you're better today jbow. It is amazing how loosing even a small body function can become a major thing.

I also goofed this weekend. I had a pretty major eye injury.

Now I'm a guy who is always using tools of many different kinds. The kind of tools that can really hurt you if you use them the wrong way. So of all things guess what got me? it wasn't a tool. I was in the shower trying to get soap out of a plastic dispenser. I was pushing on the spring loaded nozzle and the end broke off while I was pushing it. In a fraction of a second before my eye could respond a piece of hard plastic was jettisoned right into my left eye. It made a nasty scratch all the way across the eye.

Thankfully I made it to a professional eye doctor who gave me a bandage contact to wear. This basically keeps your eyelid from rubbing on the abrasion until it heals. When it happened I was really worried. It infected my sinuses and even my teeth hurt. I had a migriane headache too....all caused by the eye injury. When I covered my good eye all I could see were colored blobs of light. I really thought I was going to loose my vision in that eye. Now two days after it happened the swelling is starting to go down inside the eye and my vision is beginning to come back. I am putting anti-biotic drops in it for the outside. I consider myself lucky to be recovering.

Yes, hope it gets better soon. The not playing guitar thing is killing me, too.
Crushed my left thumb under a piece of equipment at work a couple months ago. Just as I was getting to where I could play guitar again, I smashed my left pinkie with a hammer while setting some shelves. Again at work.
Hit it so hard that it split the end of my finger. I didn't know that I used my pinkie for so many things until it hurt to use it. Still can't finger the board without pain, but it's getting there.
Thank goodness I was wearing gloves.

Well, misery does love company... Hope the eye gets better. Crushing fingers must be horrible, I think every nerve in the body must end at the fingertip. Back in 1979, give or take, I split my right thumb with a table saw. I worked in the millroom at a mobile home factory. I loved that job BTW, it was a great time... but it was time to spray some silicone on the saw. I got careless, the blade stopped whistling and I went to spray, got just a little too close and the blade was still turning. The aerosol can flew about 10' straight up and I just wrapped my index finger around my thumb. There was a doctor at the hospital, Dr. Weiss who had learned micro surgery which was at that time in its infancy. He managed to put my thumb back together. I have mutant pieces of thumbnail that grow sort of oddly but my thumb isn't numb and works perfectly, it just looks weird where the nail should be.
Hey, accidents happen. Everyone be careful... the worst thing I have done today was to go to the sink with a hot pot to soak and when I got there there was a catfood bowl in one side and another smaller pot in the other... without thinking I just grabbed the handle of the smaller pot, which was full of water and moved it to the other side.... AGGGGGGHHHH... I put my cut finger right under the handle. I wont do that again. LOL

Thans for the kind words everyone... and Herb...

I hope we get better tenants. We have gone to using a management company but so far it has not been a great experience. Someone told me a way to get people out when you need to. A guy who bought a bunch of foreclosures. If he needs to get someone out he just goes to the house and takes the front door off the house. The people are like Whhhhaaaa???? He tells them that he needs the door on another house where the people are paying the rent... LOL. However, this guy is ex Black Ops... I'm not sure if I could get away with it. IT is funny though.

I remember you telling that story every time I use my reciprocator.

Julien, my sympathies. I was trimming a customer's Leylandii hedge last year and left my cutter running on the top while I moved the ladder along. Cutter's tickover wasn't set right (my fault) and the blades were moving..put my hand down and it just nicked a neat groove out of the end of my index finger..man, did that ever bleed!

Many years back, in a garage band of sorts... I was setting in the front passenger side of a car. Both doors on that side were open. I had the support for the roof in my hand as the guy setting in the rear seat got out and closed the door. I was answering a question asked by the driver and not aware of the door closing until it closed on my fingers. It was the hinged side of the door..... man did that hurt. The guy in the back who had closed the door felt really bad about what happened but not as bad as I did.....

Fortunately, no bones were broken and while painful for a few days, it was my picking hand and not my fretting hand.... so I could stumble my way through playing a bit.
