Not sure what to think of this new model yet.
Watched the video and read the web page. I always liked having the most robust version of Sonar, but there is a $300 dollar difference in pricing on Producer v Platinum and I'll have to weigh the features out versus cost. I don't mind a discount for paying upfront, but now we see what the survey was leading to. Hopefully the upgrade pricing is reasonable.
Nice the Craig was involved with new features.

But how is TH2 the only thing NOT included in Platinum that is in EVERYTHING else? May be time to reformat my drive and start a new!

Platinum owners get TH2 Producer instead of TH2 SONAR. It has more presets and FX.

Not sure why you think this is bad. This is exactly the same as we've always done except now you'll be getting 12 months of membership which entitles you to even more features, fixes, updates and content. And you keep everything you own. Not sure what you are upset about. Essentially right now you'll be getting what would have been X4 and X5.

I agree. This is just the start of what's new: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Whats-New Seems like a pretty reasonable upgrade price to me. Just the start. Not to mention there are plenty of other things in the works that will be revealed. A few teasers here: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Up-Next#start Beyond that, this isn't just an upgrade this time around. This is a whole new development process for Cakewalk which is going to benefit customers tremendously.

Yes, TH2 Producer was bundled with X2 and X3 Producer too. Fewer amps and effects than the full version of TH2.

BUT now you also get some amp sims designed by yours truly. Just like I started designing stompbox circuits because I wasn't happy with what was out there, I'm now doing the same thing in the virtual world. They're not intended to be simulations of existing amps - we have enough software along those lines, doncha think? These are intended to create amp sounds that could exist only in the virtual world. I think of them as "idealized" amps - the amp sounds you hear in your head. (Or at least, the ones I hear in my head!)

Basically, what would have been X4 and after 12 months, for which you will not have paid anything extra, you'll have the equivalent of what would have been X5. I suspect we'll have a lot more people saying "hello" to a deal like that than "bye-bye."

For a moment I thought it was the subscription model but they are asking only for 12 months. So far the pay as you go that means you have to be connected to the net. I'm curious to see which version the user base prefers.

It's like getting two upgrades for $149. What I see is that there will be no more "end of the year" big releases - just incremental. Which is a good thing - for stability, features, less hassle (upgrades are optional so can be 'put off till proven' etc) So we'll be getting what wold have been X5 released thru next year.

So we'll be getting what wold have been X5 released thru next year.
But after year one then you are always in the same loop. There is no longer a X4+++++++++ it's just what it is when any new member (or returning member) drops in. Obviously the best price is stay current, just like the old upgrade model. I.E. Buy X4 now (day 1 year 1). Don't renew on day 1 year 2. Renew in year 3+ the cost to re-enter may be higher (just like the old upgrade model). It's still all about the user's choice.

So if you're in for all 12 months, you save a little $ by buying the upfront version and you get the membership.
I didn't see anything touch related in what I read. Any touch enhancements to look forward to?
StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen. I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.
