New Songs Made in Sonar X3
Hi, it's been a while since I've posted anything here, but I figured I'd post the two songs that we've made in Sonar X3. The first one is an ambient-ish cover of "Fall" from one of my favorite bands, Lunik (Switzerland) that features Heather Kelle on vocals. The second one is an original DnB-ish song co-written with Amie LaMonte, a new singer that I've been working with. She's been singing/writing since she was very young, but this is her first time recording anything. https://soundcloud.com/cryophonik/fall-feat-heather-kelle https://soundcloud.com/cryophonik/take-all-of-me-w-amie-lamonte Anyway, I'm not really looking for comments or anything, just thought I'd share. Feel free to download them if you're interested. I'm currently working on new songs with both singers, so hopefully I'll have more to share in the coming weeks.

I'd like to lay down in "fields of Heather..." She's a fan of Enya I can tell. For Fall, I would have built it and at 2:00 or so, brought in the drums and electric guitars... It was really pretty, but (production nit) I would have brought it in sparse as you did, and then at some point, "BOOM" The rest of the band. Good song and good recording though. I like Amie's song too. When she says "I want you to show me with your finger tips" what exactly does that mean? And please be specific. "Teach me how to love you right?" What is this song trying to tell me exactly? And please be specific. Nice use of synths on this one. I may add some more dynamics to the instruments, i.e., let that snare pop a bit more, and some of the other synths too. The backing track is pretty well crushed. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good? These are minor observations from one person's perspective. Overall, great job! p.s., you X2/X3 guys have big balls... It took me a long time to get things working well? So I'm where I was when I did... 8.3 Pro, 32 bit. When my shiz breaks down (hopefully in the distant future?) Then I'll upgrade.

Both songs are nice and sound really good for what you have done. I don't know if your done with them as you said you are working with these two women, but didn't say they were finished, so I'll have to see what they sound like in a week. But, sound good at this end and nice being able to work with some good talented ladies. Nice work and sound good. Peace and Blessings, John

Walt cuts the quick, there. Good stuff. Doesn't seem like you have problems using X3. In Take all of me I'd like vocals up a tad. Not sure if that would make the song better, but that is about the only thing that came to mind. Gorgeous tone, gorgeous voice(s). That goes for both of 'em. Nice piano work on Fall. And love how the strings build. Sometimes simple is the best when it comes to arrangement. great job. @

Haunting vocals...I would be tempted to back the keys off just a smidge to let them shine even more... What mic are you using on those vocals? How are you processing? Please share! I want to be able to do that to a vocal too! Thanks.

Thanks for all the listens and comments. I'm considering these songs done and moving on to the next ones, but I sometimes revisit songs down the road, so it's good to hear what people think. @Walt - I've found some of the singers through craigslist, and some have found me through the web, word of mouth, etc. I guess the way that I get them to work with me is that I keep it professional, treat it as a collaboration, and I guess just because I tend to get along with people pretty easily. It also helps that I'm a married/family man, and they usually hit it off with my wife (and spend hours talking about shoes ). @patm - the recording chain for Fall is: Mojave MA-201 fet > Focusrite ISA Two (w/light compression/gating from Drawmer DL241 in the insert path) > MOTU 828mkII line input. Take All of Me recording chain is: Shure SM7B > SSL XLogic Alpha Channel (w/light compression from an FMR RNC in the insert path) > MOTU 828mkII line input. Being new to recording, Amie sings much quieter, and I was able to crank up the Shure much higher than the Mojave without getting too much ambient noise from my studio. Also, she has a son about my boy's age and they were making a terrible racket in the other room, and the Shure rejected most of it, whereas the Mojave made it sound like they were in the room with us! Aaaah, the joys of home studio recording.... Which reminds me, thanks to AT for your input on my mic decision. Obviously I went with the MA-201 and it's exceeded my expectations!
