We must have some invisible umbrella of protection over our little island, because 95% of typhoons pass us to the north or to the south, mostly the latter. Those poor folks in the south are still living in tents from the big earthquake just a few weeks ago. Picture this: sitting in a makeshift tent, no electricity, one bottle of water and a handful of rice to sustain your whole family, your home is in ruins, it's 95 degrees and 100% humidity. Then you're told that the most powerful typhoon in recorded human history is headed straight for you.

I'm glad you're place is OK. You answered my question from Linear Phase's threat. Sorry to hear that they're still recovering from the earthquake. I'd forgotten about that. My best wishes to them and you--as they treat your kidney stone.

We just got a text message from the Philippines, the first communication that's gone through since the typhoon. Our people are safe, having taken shelter in the rice-storage shed that doubles as a storm shelter. We've probably lost some or all of our trees (mango, coconut, banana) but at least our new roof is intact - a new, super-tough reinforced roof installed after the last big typhoon blew away the old one.

Thank you. Fortunately my place (Metro Manila) wasn't hit as badly as the eastern part of the country.
Check out my band's song on YouTube!

Latest estimate is at least 10,000 dead. Entire cities flattened. Boggles the imagination. It's drizzly and cold here in Seattle, and we're complaining. Sheesh.

Yes, it's scary! It sounds like it's headed towards Viet Nam next. Prayers and good thoughts for them, too.
