Sonar X3c Constantly Scanning for New VSTs

Ok, so how often is Sonar supposed to scan for new VSTs?  Right now in my current project it runs the VST scan approx. every 30 seconds or so.  It doesn't seem to affect performance, but it is quite unusual and is a bit concerning.

How do I stop it?

Look in Preferences/Edit/File/Vst Settings. There is a checkbox there. I set mine for manual. That stops the scan everytime you start Sonar. You do have to remember to scan whenever you add a plug.

I have mine set to auto, and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.

The new "Toast" window is not meant to interrupt anything, but it seems strange that yours is working so often.

Mine will run at start-up, but not delay anything, but I don't notice it again.

If no one else chimes in, perhaps give Support a ring.  If it's not affecting anything, that's fine, but I'd want to know why it was running so often.

Try to set the scan on startup and see how long the scan keeps going. After that you could set it on auto if you want. Personally I think that only on startup is enough to scan for the plugins.

The Auto option runs the plug-in scanner if changes are detected within any of the folders in your plug-in scan path.  So if anything gets modified/updated in your scan path the scanner is going to run.

A few plug-ins update their settings every time they are loaded or run.
If the folder where the plug-in stores it's data is also in your scan path this can cause a new scan (if you use the auto option) every time you load or play projects that contain that plug-in.

This is different. Mine runs something like a scan every time I startup but from what I understand, it isn't really a scan... but if a project is scanning every 30 seconds or so.. that is different. I do not have an answer but I am not sure those who might are reading the question correctly.

I simply set mine to manual as well... I guess if you're constantly adding lots of plugins it might be handy, but after initial setup of the machine, I don't find it hard to run the scanner as part of the install procedure...

No matter how little resources it's using to do scheduled scans, I'd rather commit every bit (interesting title for a song?) to the work at hand...

    Hello.
I thought I posted on this thread...
I too have had this behavior...and It was set to manual scans...but some of my plug ins did not show up...So, I manually scanned for vsts...and after pressing the button, the scanner scanned and rescanned, and scanned and re rescanned while while rescanning, closing the scanner, did not solve the rescanning of those files...I had to close up sonar, and reopen it to stop the scanning....

Well, I cannot say if I have my PC over Tweaked or something else outside of sonar set up wrongly for it to perform in this manner....But I think something is odd with it,....

Sorry no solution here in turning it to manual...But I am sure it is not supposed to function as it did for me...and as it seems to for you...
So now there are more than one experiencing the problem....interesting.
