Odd behavior with MIDI clips---lengthy to explain
I am running X3c. When I was in X1d and X2a if I had a MIDI clip (Addictive Drums) that I had created in the step sequencer, if I wanted that part to play again later in the musical piece, I would just copy and paste. I can still do that except it will only copy one measure. To explain further, sometimes for say a verse section I would make a measure and pull that to the right for 6-8 measures to fill out the verse section. If I wanted to use that 6-8 measure section again I would just copy and paste it wherever I wanted it to be. If I copy and paste a clip that is anywhere longer than one measure in X3 it will shorten down to just one measure instead of staying 6-8 measures long. OK, first, does this question make sense? And, if so. Am I missing a setting, or am I possibly doing something wrong? I mean I can (and do) go back and stretch the clips back out. But, it would be nice if I didn't have to.

Hmmm... I tried to reproduce this on my laptop, and couldn't, but then remembered it was still X3b. Just tried it on my regular DAW with X3c and got the result you described. So unless there's a setting in Step Sequencer I don't know about (possible since I don't use it that much), there might be a problem in X3c.

Thanks for your reply. It appears to be an X3c thing. I shall look and experiment to make sure that there is not a new button or setting that needs attention. Again, thanks.

But to work around - why don't you ctrl drag the MIDI clip (that's faster than copy and paste) - and if it comes out as 1 measure, just (with snap set to measure) ctrl drag the 1 measure clip 7 times, and then bounce the 8 clips into one if you want?
It sounds more convoluted than actually doing it ;-)

Never thought of that actually. Thanks for the tip.

Even easier - if your pasted clip is 1 measure long, just drag the RH side again...

Note the OP wrote "I mean I can (and do) go back and stretch the clips back out. But, it would be nice if I didn't have to." Also, I just tested Ctrl-drag copy, and it exhibits the same issue as copy-paste.

Hmmm...thanks for replying because I have not tried that yet. Here is another thing that is showing up as well. I had a section of clips laid out and decided to move them. They were the clips that had been lengthened by dragging to the right. I did a lasso type selection to group the whole area because I was moving audio as well. When I moved the whole section the MIDI clips defaulted down to just one measure. I would say that X3c has a MIDI issue. Next question is how do you report this to the bakers?

Just to be clear, this is only a problem with Step Sequencer clips. Regular MIDI clips and rolled out groove clips copy as expected. You can report the problem here: http://www.cakewalk.com/support/contact/problemreport.aspx
