Focusrite VRM Issue
I have a Focusrite VRM box and an RME Fireface 800. I have been using the Fireface 800 without issue when I added the VRM box I connected it to the SPDIF out on the FF 800. In <preferences><Audio><Devices> under the Output Drivers options I can see that the "Focusrite USB ASIO Driver Output 1" option is available, however, it is greyed out and un-selectable. I would like to use it as anoutput device on ocassion but can not figure out how to enable this output device so that I can use it...any ideas? Thanks, -Ken

Sell by date at 9000 posts. Do not feed. @48/24 & 128 buffers latency is 367 with offset of 38. Yes, I am using 1.3 but am still having the same problem.

When it is connected to the s/pdif out it is not acting as an audio interface - just a signal processor. If you want to use it as an interface just use the USB without s/pdif.

Unfortunately even when it is connected with just the USB interface and no SPDIF cable the VRM output is still greyed out and not selectable. I can see it as an option but just cant select it.

Unless both the input and output of the other ASIO device are deselected, the USB connected VRM will be greyed out.

I have a FF 400 and a VRM box that work well together. Here's how I do it. The USB from the VRM into my computer. The spd/f out of my FF goes into the VRM. I have a preset in the FF mixer for spd/f monitoring, which I use to monitor the VRM. When I'm through with the VRM, I turn it off via control panel>device manager>sound by disabling it so as not to compete with the FF when using CW. The problem is that ASIO doesn't permit more than one driver to access the hardware at a time.
So whichever device driver is active blocks any other ASIO driver on the system from being seen by Sonar or any other software for that time.
The way around this is to use WDM/KS drivers but then you need the S/PDIF connection to carry the digital clock signal so that the first connected device acts as the master while the other acts as slave

This is true. That's why I advise going into control panel>device manager>sound to diable the VRM when not using it.
