v 700 control surface setting

this is probably a stupid question but I've just installed the v 700 win 8.1 drivers and have installed x3. Opened up a new project went to edit and preferences. Went to control surface and selected the 700 console. I forget, what else am I supposed to check in the control surface preferences?
