Looking for a good Audio/MIDI interface that integrates seamlessly with Sonar 3?
I was looking at the Cakewalks V-Studio I/O VS-700R, but it doesn't appear to be available alone, sold with packaged system? Also, no indication of price. I'm not a professional, just a hobbiest -- most of what I do is add my own original music to my videos. I use Adobe CC suite and C4D R15 for the video side of things ... so the audio/midi interface needs to work well with that product also. In the past when I was using Mac hardware I used Motu Ultralite and was very pleased with it, but I'm primarly on Windows now that Apple seemed to be moving away from desktop computing (long long long delays between new MacPro hardware). Seeking recommendations. Thanks, Rob.

Cakewalks VS-Studio 100 is a great compact piece of midi/audio interface hardware. Its what i use with an affordable price-tag of just over 500au It has VLink as well for live performance. It comes with Cakewalks V-Studio music software. I personally use X2 Pro as Audio-snap has stronger quantising. Check it out!

Thanks for the info, I don't do anything live - not familiar with v-Link, is it another interconnection standard? Cheers, Rob

Latest Roland lineup- quadcapture, octacapture and studio capture are rock solid, low latency and well priced. I can vouch for both the Quad and Studio capture. The quad runs off USB power too.

Thanks for input, one of those three Rolands is high on my list, very high. The Roland Studio capture is more than I need but I like that it has XLR monitor outputs as I plan to run those directly to my monitors (which I'm also deciding on, I love the Genelec's - but not sure I want to spend that much again).

I have a Quad for sale cheap...it records at a higher sample rate then the VS-100, but doesn't have the DAW control or stand alone recorder. If you need more then 2 inputs, you'll want to go with the Octo...which, if you decide to later on, can be linked to another one for 16 channels of input. All depends on what you need...but if you can live with recording 2 tracks at a time...the Quad is a GREAT interface for X3.... http://www.roland.com/products/en/QUAD-CAPTURE/

Thanks for the input. I keep looking at the Roland Studio capture, I want the outputs, but I really don't need all the inputs -- really just need one input, one midi, and 8 outputs with a headphone monitor. I only do keyboard and some vocals and the rest is all sequence and/or clip arrangements/adjustments. Looking at MOTU also but so many choices ... I've read the Roland works better with Cakewalk than MOTU but also read that the Roland has tendancy to crackle/pop on input adjustments and claim this is "normal"? Is Roland and MOTU the only game in town for Windows 7 64bit based workstation? Thanks, Rob.

FYI, I ended up going with the Roland Studio Capture ... it was a toss up between the MOTU Ultralite MK3, MOTU 828 MK3, or the Roland Studio ... I hope I don't regret it.

So, it's been four weeks. Any regrets?
