Lady At The Well
Here is a Christian Blues/ Rock number that I just finished tracking and mixing. I have had this lick around for a while and as per usual, was stuck on finishing the lyrics. Let me know if this mix sounds balanced. Lady At The Well: https://soundcloud.com/michaeljhanson/lady-at-the-wellLady At The Well There by the base of Jacobs well, She met a man there that knew her so well, He told her everything she'd ever done. He told her everything she had become. She told him how she felt she was cursed. Lost and rejected alone in this world. Go tell your brothers what you have heard. Drink of my water and you'll never thirst. Lady, I see you. So many times she has been to this well. So many times, now she has seen for herself, Who is this man who stands here alone? Who is this man who says he's the one. Am I a prophet or a man of the cloth? Go tell your brothers before they are lost Go tell the others these words you have heard. Drink of this water and you'll never thirst. Lady, I see you She wants to know what tomorrow will bring. Am I a prophet or am I the king? I am the one, the one you wait for? I am the Savior that your searching for? Go tell the others these words you have heard. Drink of this water and you'll never thirst. Lady, I see you.

I like it man! I left a few questions on your Soundcloud page. Sounds like an early 70's type of production. Very cool indeed!

Hey Clint, thanks for the comments. To answer your questions here as well. Yes, the first amp tone is from the Amplitube Orange collection. That tone inspired the song. The bass is using the Orange Bass head, I believe it is an AD200. The second guitar that enters is using S-Gear. I believe it predates the Wayfarer addition to S-Gear.

Good job, the kick is aggressive, but it fits. Sounds like it may have been mixed by the drummer :-) I wasn't a huge fan of the vocals on the chorus, but I did enjoy the song.

Mike I like this. Your take on Christian rock is unique. Just a note: the mix sounds a bit mid heavy to me... has a hollow sound to it. The drums are kicking it. And I could not, for the life of me, understand the lyrics in the chorus... I could barely hear them at all.... Minor fixes IMHO.

I really like the vocal production during the verses, but they're hard to make out during the chorus. The drums might be a little bit hot, but I kinda like them hot for this song. Really like the stripped down retro production overall. Great stuff. :) Also listened to Saved Me and liked that one even more. I like your style!

@ Ivey, Thanks Chris, I appreciate the listen and comments. @ Robbie, I have gone back and forth with the drums, some times I like them hot as is, some times I have toned them down. I think hot kind of fits this song, but they may be a touch to hot still. I will probably experiment some more with the drum levels. I guess I wish you put more explanation into what you didn't like about the chorus vocals. I don't claim to be a singer, never had any aspirations to be one, and never have really liked my own voice. I've just tried to learn to be one out of necessity. I think I am getting a little better though, I don't cringe quite as much every time I hear myself. I have heard that it is common for one not to particularly be comfortable with your own voice. @Herb, Thanks for listening bro. I am unique in the genre. Every time I post over at the CSN site I get those type of comments as well. "This fits exactly what we have come to expect from you." I guess, I just can't do much of the "all fluffy white clouds and soft furry bunny", type Christian songs. I see this life as being to much of a struggle with real world issues. I will play with reducing some mids a little and see if it cleans anything up. The main guitar tone is a preset on one of the Amplitube Orange amps. When I first played it, it had that old school reverby blues like tone to the preset. The song came about because of the tone and I have kind of used that to guide me through the other sounds on the track. The vocals have some delay and reverb to them to get a similar feel. That could be the "hollow" sound you are hearing. Guitars and vocals are not very dry and up front in the mix. I will post the lyrics for you up in the original post so that you can make out the chorus. Let me know if that helps. Maybe I need to try to re-sing them in hopes of making them clearer. If I do, I am going to take a break for this one for a while first. @ Walt, Thanks for listening! Yes, Saved Me has turned into one of my personal favorites. Invisible is also one of my favorites. Chris Ivey, above, actually remixed that version that is on my Sound Cloud and I really like what Dude did with that song. I have thought about adding a B3 to this song, even though I can barely play keys. I have not, as of yet, because I kind of like the stripped down 4 piece band version of this as well.

Mike, this is one of your best. The guitar tones are thick, and your voice sounds great. The mix is well balanced and sounded good on my monitors. Kudos!

Mike, Ah yes, John 4:6-26, love this story. Nice thick sound to this song and I liked your take with the lyrics. The chorus is weak, but everything else sounds very nicely done. Awesome song. Peace and Blessings, John

Hi Michael, interesting style for the genre, really like the verses, the riffs and vocals work well. The chorus is letting the song down though IMO, needs something a lot stronger melodically and lyrically. In fact as it is, it sounds like a bridge or pre-chorus. Like your guitar tone a lot btw.

@ John, Yes one of my favorite stories as well. Thanks for your comments on the tone and thick sounds, I like the way this song turned out as well. I hear what you are saying about the chorus and I am beginning to thing I agree with you and James. This may be what Robbie was originally referring to as well. I tried something different in the chorus, but maybe it's not working as well as I had hoped. I probably need to give this song a rest and not listen to it spfor a while; then go back and revisit the chorus. Maybe I mute them and see what else I come up with.
@ Jamesg1213, As I had mentioned about, I agree and will revisit the chorus once I put some time behind me on this one. I think that chorus is burned into my brain right now and need to not hear this song for a while. Glad that you like my uniqueness.
@ Rimshot I might have to burn a wav. without drums and let you take a go at them.
The Great Bapu....thanks man. I appreciate the listen.

Really well composed song, musically and lyrically. Nice groove to it, with some nice hooks. Really like the guitars and your vocals, and the percussion is really good, too. Everything just fit so well together, quite impressively. It was hard to make out the words of the chorus though, as others have mentioned. Anything you could do with that would just make the recording and message stronger.
