recorded audio track woes.

Hi, just trying to record 1 guitar over a backing track.
Baking track imported mp3. I record guitar part, all seems ok, but it's out of sync. I have tried using drag and drop and nudging. If I line up the start of the guitar part to the backing track it slowly goes out of sync again as the track progresses. Same if I line it up from the end of the section, the start will be way out.

Help appreciated.

    Welcome to the forum.
This is a common problem for beginners; make sure the sampling rate and bit depth are the same for SONAR and the device you're recording through.
A sampling rate of 44,100 and bit depth of 16 is probably what your SONAR defaults to. My new computer defaulted to 48,000 @ 16-bit, if I recall correctly. Change one of them to match the other.

I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

Thanks for the welcome and response. I have just listened to the recorded guitar part alone and it's full of weird noises and seems to speed up and slow own.

When you say "the device you are recording through"  I have a tc  effect processor into a MI audio fast track, that connects to my usb. Which one would I change and how.

Through device manager on  my  pc I changed both my internal soundcard and the MI audio controller to 16bt 44100k. Hope that sorts it out, I report back when I get chance.

Use only the Fast Track and its ASIO drivers with SONAR. Don't select the mobo soundchip for anything in the Options or Preferences (you did not even mention what software you're using :o)

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

    Be sure to select asio

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

Check your computer to see if something is interferring with streaming audio and video. Not the best program there are others (not free) but this program is free.

And using ASIO drivers account for latency in the recording, Windows drivers will always lag a certain amount (like KS/M whatever drivers or MME drivers. ASIO are the only drivers where you hear the music and record the music and hear it all at the same time.

Hi, thanks all. Disabling my soundblaster, changing the fast track to 16bit 44100, asio, and starting a new project with matching values ,importing the audio backing trakcs and recording over them gave perfect (for my needs) results, many thanks.
When I had recorded the mismatched versions, for some god damn awful minutes I actually thought I had been fooling myself and my guitar playing was shocking.

Now that you have got a working Fast Track installation running ASIO, you might want to consider changing the bit depth to 24. In SONAR both the Preferences > Audio > Driver Settings "Audio Bit Driver Depth" and the Preferences > File > Audio Data "Record Bit Depth" need to be changed.
