New member.new song
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum but I have been involved in music for many years and even written and performed my own songs. However until recently I have been unable to record them as I want them to be heard until I found Sonar X2 and do it myself. I have a lot to learn as I have only just started to use a computer for recording. I have waisted alot of money in the past going to record studios and being told how they should be recorded. Not to the way I like them to be heard. A friend of mine who is a member of this forum suggested I should post one of my songs so that others can hear it. My first one is a lullaby that has been floating around in my head since 1995 and only now have I had an opportunity to record it. I wrote it for a musical stage show. //soundcloud.com/sandraystor/my-moma-told-me Let me know what you think. Sandra

Sandra, Great job on the first song on X2... excellent. On any other web site using your email as your forum name might not be a good idea.... but hey.... glad to see you here and starting off with such a good song.

Hi Sandra, I haven't posted in quite some time. Just wanted to say I listened to all your posted songs and think that there's some incredible stuff yiou have there. Very, very live theater worthy. No offense but it sounds like a high tenor male voice performing. Is that a male or female vocalist? Your name implies female. This is not a critique but simply an observation that it sounds as though these are recordings of live performances instead of studio recordings. You may well have intended them to sound that way. Kind of reminds me of this early recording of Barbara Streisand. Not the vocal sound but the genre. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nl4sEETyIUA Really nice stuff there Sandra! Probably a very limited audience but I like it. It's a refreshing departure from the Rap, Hip Hop, Techno genres. Pete

Just to let you all know that I am singing and performing my own songs and yes I am a lady with a tenor type voice. I have recorded them as if they were live on stage sitting in the audience, No enhancements. No cover ups. No voice correction. All me. I play the piano parts as well. I know my songs are not commercial enough but they suit people who go to stage shows etc. That,s my audience. I know all about the music business, My last gig was at the Royal Opera House in 2000, after that I quit the madness, older and wiser now. I would like other people to sing my songs. Sandra

Hey that is cool.... ^^^^^ As you get more comfortable with Sonar X, there is absolutely no reason you can not use the full functioning of X2 to add strings and other instruments to the mix to enhance it and the FX as well. Take your time, post more music here and get feedback from the folks here. You can learn quite a bit as many people here have good ears, know what they're doing, and are willing to help and share advice and knowledge with anyone willing to listen. We have folks here all the way from beginners to highly talented professional musicians & recording engineers.... Many here share your frustration with the business and drama of live gigging. (me for one) With Sonar, you can record your music at you convenience, put together a CD and let the folks who like that genre and style of music hear it. Internet has changed music in a huge way, as has the availability of quality home recording gear. Welcome to our diverse and crazy family.

Quote [ I would like other people to sing my songs.] Quote Since they changed the format in this forum I no longer know how to properly add a quote. I really like your vocals. Quite frankly I think you're extremely skilled in your vocal performances. Nothing wrong with having other people sing your songs but don't underestimate your own skill as well. I'd love to be able to sing like you. As far as recording and mixing to sound as though it is a live performance....you nailed it perfectly. It would be interesting to hear you write and produce a song with a full orchestra behind you. Kind of a Gershwin's Porgy and Bess type of production, or perhaps A Chorus Line type of production. I think you would really enjoy having a full orchestra at your fingertips, which is exactly what you have with Cakewalk software. The softsynths that come with the Cakewalk programs are pretty good but as you gain more experience with it you'll probably want to upgrade to Garritan Personal Orchestra or some of the other available sound banks that have a more realistic sound to them. Some real fun lies ahead for you. Pete

It's a pretty song, but it's a question of height vs. weight? If the numbers are not favorable, then the odds are less favorable. And I don't mean this in a negative way at all, It's more a statement of fact. If one can realize that, and take steps to adjust things in their favor, they are much more likely to meet their goals/objectives. Good luck, I hope you achieve everything you hope for. "Men are pigs... We look up there? Then we look down there... And we make judgments very quickly based on these observations." The good news is, we can all control what people see when they look here, or there? So in the end, people see exactly what you want them to see. Want them to see the best you can be? And the world will beat a path to your door.

Hi Folks I am so pleased you like my song. It gives me a boost. I know its not for everyone. I have many more stuffed in a cupboard and I am now rewriting them again. Just this minute finished another song which I will try and get recorded today and put on soundcloud. I have looked at the link that one of you guys sent me to listen to Barbara Streisand. I have never heard her earlier songs but I enjoyed them very much. My kind of music. Music is good for the soul. My soul anyway! Best regards to you all. Sandra

When I'm hearing this I wonder how this will sound with a string section, a bass and the piano play not following the melody so much. But after a while I think that maybe all these things only will destroy the genuin live theater feeling that I now can see so clearly. Great song and beautifully performed!

I like this very much. You obviously are very talented. I'm glad you discovered Sonar and welcome to the forum. You will be amazed at all of the things you'll be able to do with your music and it's you making the decisions. For example, you could add a little reverb to that piano. I think that would sound nice.
I look forward to hearing more of your contributions. End be sure to check out some of the music by the many talented people here. :-)

Sandra, you've captured a time and sound that is classic theater and not heard on this forum often, if at all. I call this old school, and I mean that in the best sense. It does a very good job of creating an image in my mind when you sing this. Keep up the good work.

Hi folks Can any of you suggest any guitar sample packs etc that will work with sonar X2 Producer so I can add some guitar music to my songs. I can not play guitar and trying to emulate a guitar on the keyboard controller is rubbish. Cannot get that realistic guitar sound on keyboards. As you all know. I need some rock and ballad type guitar playing to go with my songs. I need to know what to get and there is so much on the internet I dont know what I am looking for or what will work with SonarX2 Pro. Then I can fill out my songs a bit more. Sandra

Hi Lynn Thanks for your response, I will have to get to my friends and have a look at Guitar simulator on he's X3. I will have to save my pennies up. I have been looking at a site called Prime Loops. Anyone heard or used them. They seem to have loads of samples.? Tell me if you think the quitar samples are good enough. I assume they will work with sonar. I am a novice at this so It may seem a dumb question to you all. Sandra
