Darn, missed it...
A house in Montreal all our friends were suggesting... It's just been sold. http://www.oldhousedreams.com/2012/05/09/1920-townhouse-montreal-canada/ But you know what? I've come to appreciate the vast uncluttered and bright space we live in. Not to mention weather and pretty much everything else which I'm just more compatible w/ in the US.

$579k only buys you one bathroom??? Heck, considering the age of the house, I wonder if you'd be able to run your music gear!
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Yeah. You sound heartbroken. It's hard not to miss old friends, though.

TBH, I don't have that many people that I genuinely miss. I can live w/ seeing my own brother once every 3 years, which gives an idea. At that rate, I've calculated that I probably won't see my little brother again more than 10-12 times in my life, based on an estimated 70-80 lifespan. And he's the most important person to me besides my wife, so... My wife, my cats, my music - and I could never leave home again and never get tired of it.

I know it's a cliche, but I would suggest that you take advantage of every visit you can with your brother while you have the chance because you never know what the future holds--and Bubba ain't sayin' about the personal stuff. Seriously, I've had a few close calls this year health-wise and vouch for the cliche's accuracy.

I agree wholeheartedly, and, actually, once every 3 years already requires that we jump on every opportunity. But we just live at opposite ends of the continent not to mention the fact that he is a total rolling stone - he's on the road since last month and for at least another 6 months. So it's not like we can just drop over at each other's place for the weekend. It usually involves plane tickets, car rentals, hotel rooms and a whole lot of planning. I know people often hate Facebook but I'll tell you this much - it really allowed me and my brother to get back in touch and more importantly STAY in touch. We used to exchange a few e-mails a year. But then life goes on and you postpone replying, and time flies... It wasn't uncommon that 8 or 10 months would go by without me knowing where in the world he was. With Facebook, I get instant news every couple of days, pictures and quick updates. Obviously it's not the deepest form of communication, but, it's complementary and, imho, almost as essential. All the little things and the insignificant moments, all the things that don't make into more formal e-mails or phone calls. Whose got time to write lengthy personalized e-mails on an iPhone while on a back packing trip in South America, anyway?

I agree with you and I can sympathize. My family is in New Jersey. I hadn't be able to visit them in a few years for health reasons, but they visited me here in California a few months ago when I had a short stay in the hospital. I haven't been doing FB. I speak to them on the phone as often as I can. I hope to make a trip back to NJ next year.

The price of real estate now floors me. The house looks nice though, in need of some work from what I could see. I think FB is more interesting if you follow a few closer friends and family. I look at it maybe once or twice a week and see things like, " I'm baking brownies" or " I've had it with whatever"( take your pick)." Look one toe is bigger than the other one", this comes complete with a picture to prove it. I have around 100 people who want me to play games with them on FB. It sounds like fun, but I just don't have the time. For family though I think its great. I can see what my sisters are up to, that is, if I want to. My brother is more than a rolling stone, he is a lost stone. No one knows where he is.

My studio is in the middle of the "historic" district here... mostly late 1800 renovated two story thingys. My former partner owned and lived in one just a couple of blocks away for years before I bought him out and he moved to the north part of the state to make some serious money. And "serious money" is what I see when I look at those pictures. As in "it's gonna take some serious money to renovate and maintain that there house!!" Even if I were a wealthy feller I wouldn't have one of those on a bet. Pretty though. Mighty pretty. But so is a coral snake.

I'm willing to bet your half a million would go much further in Vegas. Canadian winter is so depressing in a city with the grey slush, frozen cars and cold. I just got back from FLA and I'm missing it already. Live in the desert. Build one of those high efficiency homes that's half underground and get off the energy grid. If this doesn't fit your plan then don't worry, there's tons of old buildings waiting to take all your money in the name of character.

I've been in the US for over a decade and have no desire to go back to Newcastle...Facebook keeps me in touch with everyone, and there are a few people I really get on with, but to be honest it's just depressing to see that so many of my old friend's lives seem to revolve around TV and booze. You need less friends as you get older...when I was 20 I could probably count over 50 people who I saw as friends....these days it's more like 6 or 7. Your tastes refine and you drift apart.

You might want to send that photo to BayouBill. It looks like it could be parked down by the river.

BayouBill first needs MM100 to give him a gig to start the down payment on that thing. Once he has it any band will take him (being that it's a Van of sorts)
