Sonar VS will not setup with V-Studio 100 on Windows 7 correctly

I want to use the Sonar VS software with the V-Studio 100, but I can't get the MIDI devices Inputs and Outputs devices to stay selected in the Options -> Midi Devices window. I have the latest driver installed as well as the latest control surface plugin available installed for Windows 7 64 bit system. Here is what happens. When I open up this setup window, check the 4 boxes for MIDI/CONTROL V-100 for the inputs and outputs, then click on OK, they don't stay selected. If I do it again, they are cleared. As a result, when select Options -> Controller Surfaces, click + to add in the VS-100, it appears in the list, but when I click on the slot for Input and for Output, there is only "none" to choose from. As a result I can't get the V-Studio 100 to work with VS on Windows 7. I was able to get this to work right on Windows Vista on another computer I don't want to use, but not on Windows 7 with the latest driver and control surface plug-in.

Roland support could not find a solution for me and Cakewalk could not either (they did not make the driver, but made the software). I think it is a software problem, as the names of the inputs and outputs appear to select. I want to use this because it is much simpler than Sonar x2 that I have not learned yet.

If anyone has had the same problem, please let me know what I need to do. I start VS in admin mode and it does not matter.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I didn't install the VStudio software because I already had X2 so I may not be much help but was wondering if the VS-100 midi settings work correctly under X2?

I know it's not the software you want to use but I'm just trying to narrow down where the problem may be.

Do you have other midi devices on the system?

I might reinstall the driver just to be sure

    Good luck,

    Matt

Are you starting Sonar VS as an Administrator in Windows 7?
    • To test: Right click the Sonar VS icon, and choose "Run as Administrator".
    • To do all the time: Right click the icon, choose properties > compatibility > check box "run as administrator" and apply the changes.
I never had Vista so don't know how that worked, but XP always ran software at the highest level so it was never an issue. Anything important in Windows 7, I set to run as admin.

Not sure if it will help or not, but it's an easy try ...

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

This happens in Win 8.1.  I always right click the X3 icon and choose run as admin.

As far as the problem with the VS Sonar:  I have never installed it.  However, in Windows 8.1 and Sonar X3, there is no problem selecting the MIDI ports and having it stick.  The V Studio 100 runs great in Win 8.1 and Sonar X3.

Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture,  A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments.

    And away we go!
