Sonar X2 - Import Problems
I attempted to use Sonar X2 to do a sound mix for a feature film, but ended up having to use Audition CS6 (which has been crashing frequently, which is fun) because Sonar would not import the reference video or any of the audio tracks.
I tried first to import the reference video track (720x480 QuickTime) that contained an audio stream of the first/scratch mix. Sonar gave me an error stating that I was attempting to import an unsupported file format. I assume it's because Sonar requires a specific codec in addition to its container, but I haven't been able to find anything more specific on what Sonar will support aside from the general .avi/.mov formats. I even tried transcoding the Quicktime file using a couple different codecs, but Sonar wanted nothing to do with it.
I then attempted to bring in the audio tracks, and although I didn't receive an error, nothing actually happened. No clip in the timeline, no waveform, nothing.
There were 24 .wav audio tracks, 48/24, each 90 minutes in length. (Same runtime as the reference video, obviously.) I wasn't able to import a single one of them. I'd go to File>Import>Audio, select one of them, and then after a few seconds of the "thinking" hourglass, Sonar just sat there, ready to go, with nothing actually imported. It didn't freeze up or anything; it simply did not import the file as requested.
I've been able to import other .wav files, so is it possible that there's a time/file size limit on what can be imported? I played the reference video back in another application and set my interface to loopback, and I was able to bounce the system audio into Sonar and record the entire 90 minute audio that way, so there isn't a time limit on projects, at least not something that's 90 minutes.
If anyone has any thoughts on why Sonar won't import these wave files and what types of specific codecs Sonar requires in .mov/.avi containers (and if there are any time/file size limitations on video), I'd greatly appreciate the feedback.
Thanks.
