Groove 3 Tutorials
I have the X1 videos (Explained and Tips & Tricks) which I thought were pretty good, although I really only just scratched the surface at the time. Anyone had a look at the new ones? I really want to get to grips with using Sonar as my main DAW so I'm thinking about getting X3 New Features but I'm wondering if it's worth my while Getting X3 Explained or would most of the content of that be covered in X1 Explained? Or, does anyone have any other advice as to flattening out the learning curve? Cheers Mark

Consider getting a 1-month all access and burn through a bunch of them - might be cheaper in the long run. ...or get the $99 full year access if there are a lot of tutorials you're interested in and you want to take your time.

Most of the content in X3 Explained is redundant information. X3 New Features is ok...
I'd spend $20 in the Cake store and get Karl (AKA FastBikerBoy's) SWA Sonar X3 New Features video.. More bang for your buck...IMHO

The annual subscription is the way to go if possible - there are so many hundreds of great videos that will enrich your music production skills in general. I've ended up watching courses that I would never have considered if I was buying the videos separately. For example, recently I've been watching Eli Krantzberg's MIDI Orchestration course and it's been so enlightening and inspirational that I'm seriously considering shelling out for a full orchestra library and trying my hand at writing for orchestra. Would never have thought about this path of I hadn't one afternoon decided to randomly watch this course.

I agree with the note above about Sonar X3 Explained as being very similar in content to the X1 and X2 versions of Explained, with of course some updates that are specific to X3. The Sonar X3 New Features tutorial, however, is very helpful, and it's extra affordable at the moment in the Cakewalk store. That said, I highly recommend any Groove 3 tutorial, and especially the ones offered from Eli Krantzberg. He has a really good approach to getting capabilities and the how to of each tool covered. If you want to watch the tutorials while connected to the internet, I concur with sharke that the online subscription is one heck of a great value. In my case, the time I have to watch these tutorials (which can be 3-4 hours each), tends to be time when I'm not connected to the internet. So, I do prefer purchasing them (especially on discount) and going through them offline. Groove3 has had some very generous discounts over the past year at various times.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I highly recommend all of Eli's videos. I haven't seen the X1 ones, but own the X2 and X3 ones, and the new features. My suggestion would be to watch Seth Perlstein's "Transitioning.." video to get you up to speed with the changes in X2, then get Eli's "New Features in X3" video.

Thanks guys! I'd not really thought about the all access pass and being on or offline isn't an issue so it actually makes a lot of sense. The $15 for 1 month looks the way to go for me and seeing as I've got some time off over xmas and new year I might extend that for another month. I reckon I could cram a whole lot of info in over the holidays :) I'll have a look at the SWA one too. Cheers!

Sorry for that recommendation, it wasn't on the Groove Three site. It was a Cakewalk video. It used to be a sticky on this forum. I know Cake and Seth P had a "falling out", but I am surprised that they have taken it down completely - it was a very informative video. I just had a quick search and couldn't find it. Perhaps someone else can. I'll keep looking..

I also think Seth Perlstein's "Transitioning vid is one of the most important videos for users coming from any version of the x's. I love eli too. this latest video I thought was a combo of the earlier vids with not enough x3 stuff, but I do understand where he is coming from. you got to rehash for users who don't have the others. but I really dig any of seths videos, he should be doing that full time.

The groove3 videos are so inexpensive that even if you pick up only one or two new tricks from them, then they have more than paid for themselves in making your use of X3 that much more easy. I'd say grab every video you can afford and watch each several times. Knowledge is power!
Bandlab Platinum and every other toy I can get my hands on...and yes I'm way in debt over this obsession...

Groove 3 currently is running their one-year subscription for $99. Just my opinion but I do this every year and consider it one of the best purchases I make each year. There is a ton of stuff on there...lots of it high quality and usable. Regards,
